Three girls who should have reconsidered having what those elves were having.
The drink was sweet and fruity and had a kick like a country mule.
After their first drink, egging themselves up to it with reminders of how adult they were being and when in Osaka and all that sort of thing, the three had set their drinks off to the side. Chizuko had passed out and was snoring, Rin's eyes were only now stopping their watery wobble, and Miyuki kept munching on pretzels to try and soothe her burning throat.
Their new friend, Yoriko Nikaidou, despite being older and supposedly wiser - had had two of the drinks and was now trying to write the proprietor a ticket for selling booze to underage girls. It might have been more credible if she actually had anything to write with.
Kepeskixen watched the little girls play-acting adult and wondered exactly what those fools on the council were up to with these choices. Was it some human thing that despite her years in this form, she still didn't understand?
The red dragon considered her soft hands with the nearly useless claws and reconsidered that notion. No, they weren't fools. Not completely at any rate. Most likely they'd stacked the deck with such as these precisely because they'd be eliminated quickly. Pawns to be sacrificed in the jockeying for position among the real candidates. That was most likely it.
This tavern was one of the gathering places where the scattered candidates were being brought, and so she had picked a good seat where she could brood over a chilled firewine and examine the rest of the room without interruption.
There was that fop, Zelda. It would be easy to dismiss her if one didn't realize how much she'd accomplished in her short (relatively) life. All while wearing a poofy shirt and that feathered hat. Definitely not someone to underestimate, and the costume was no doubt intended to make people dismiss her as a loon.
Subtlety was not her strong suit, neither was humor. While she understood both concepts to some degree, Kepeskixen felt that her strengths were more serious and direct.
She noted that others were doing as she was doing - looking over the competition and sizing it up. Those would be more problem.
