Old eyes watched as the landscape sped by. At long last... after a year of searching... a sign!
Cologne turned from the window of the train car and considered how she had come to this point. Slightly over one year ago, a supposed terrorist attack decimated Nerima while she had been back in the Amazon Village. Everyone was reported dead.
Cologne hadn't believed that. She could feel it in her bones that Shampoo had survived. The rather rushed investigation and subsequent trials had been too convenient, and smacked of a cover-up. Something happened in Nerima... and someone didn't want people to know about it.
It hadn't been easy, tracking down what few clues she could, but with the help of her partner, they managed to track that several 'packages' were shipped to America right before the bombing. Packages that they were certain contained people grabbed, including Ranma and Shampoo. And then, this company, Umbrella, apparently blew up the entire district to cover their tracks.
Cologne snorted. Obviously people who felt themselves beyond any law or retribution. They would show them how wrong that assumption was. Just as soon as they found the children.
And now, just this very morning, a sign! She had felt Shampoo's aura again, reaching heights she had never suspected. She was relatively close - somewhere in the desert beyond the Rocky Mountains.
A movement drew her attention to her partner, and she again marveled at the change in the man. Being broken by grief can do many things, but it was a rare sight to see someone made stronger by it. Anyone who had known him before would not have recognized the grim and focused man across from her as Genma Saotome.
"What did you find?" she asked him.
"Umbrella has a lab that no one is supposed to know about. In Death Valley."
Cologne nodded.
Death Valley?
How apropos...
