Truly he felt sorry for her.
She had her stock portfolio, she had her prestigious college to attend...but these were empty consolations.
Everyone she'd known had died in that terrorist bombing last year. Now she was alone in the world, no father, no sisters, no friends, just her. And she wasn't letting anyone else get close.
The textbooks she'd brought in with her went untouched, as usual, and she contented her "study session" with a parade of drinks.
She was in an alcoholic fog when someone sat down next to her and asked her a question.
"Are you Nabiki Tendo?" the person asked, convincing Nabiki to blearly turn to face whoever had invaded her grieving.
"Go away and find some other survivor," Nabiki growled. "I'm tired of reporters."
"I'm not a reporter, Miss Tendo," the person said, and Nabiki drunkenly tried to ascertain any fact she could about them. Male, female, Japanese, Gaijin, real, hallucination..."I came to offer you a chance at revenge."
That word penetrated Nabiki's mind and she recovered a fair amount of sobreity for the moment.
