"No, ma'am," one of the attendant goddesses said. "She is one of the affected goddesses."
"Errr, I guess that makes me in charge then," the first goddess said. "Any chance of a virus or a bug developing?"
"No, ma'am," a third goddess said, watching her screen. "The spell is stable and firm, no leakage. It's only doing what it was programmed to do. There's a fourth mortal on site now and the program hasn't touched her."
"Good," the senior goddess said, breathing a sigh of relief. "What is the status of the affected souls?"
"The aphrodesiac has proceeded beyond the physical and emotional levels," the first of the attendants spoke. "It is establishing a network on the spiritual levels."
"No activity on the intellectual level then?" the senior asked. "No changes there."
"Nope. No mental changes, just emotional and spiritual. They're going to have figure things out on their own," the first said. "It's overrighting the sister protocols...strong stuff. Hmm, Skuld's physical maturity has been reset this incarnation from eighteen to seventeen, she's going to be up for her full category sooner than expected."
"Can we, maybe reverse it?" the senior asked.
"I don't think so," the attendant said. "If we caught it before it reached the spiritual level maybe, but now."
"It's not a threat to the system," the senior said. "Therefore the risk to the souls involved is much too great, understood. How are the mortals?"
"Well, there's some trace aura-leakage," an attendant said. "They're still mortal, but they've upgraded to Potential levels. They're lifewaves are interwoven with goddesses' and demoness's."
"So they're shielded from age and most diseases then," the senior said. "Any sign that Niflheim caught sight of this?"
"They're not moving to recollect their agent yet," an attendant said.
"Well, they're in a temple after all," the senior said. "Send a seraphim team to guard the four points of the temple, unseen. The aphrodesiac may have precipitated the request for asylum, but it was still her choice."
"Yes, ma'am," the attendant nodded and dialled a few numbers before speaking to that effect into her headset.
"And arrange a case-worker for the demon," the senior said. "Umm, anything else?"
"The spell program is running it's course," an attendant said. "The first of them should be waking up soon."
****
In Niflheim Hild fumed as she felt her minion leave her employ, asking that other place for sanctuary.
It always aggravated her when she lost a good agent. Not that Mara was always the most effective of demons, but she had good ideas usually. Her only problem was that she was basically faced with too much opposition.
Hild had been aware of the occasional camaraderie shared by Mara and Urd, and, by extension, the other Norns and their household, but really, she was understaffed and more important missions to attend to than the competition over one young man's soul.
She very much wished that she had paid a bit more attention now, however. 1st class demons were hard to train. They weren't something she'd want to just toss away the effort and resources spent on them.
She paused and considered her options. Leave the situation for now? Attempt to re-tempt Mara back to Niflheim? Attack and destroy? Attack and capture? Simply watch things for what develops?
So many options, she sighed and shook her head.
