Resident Ranma: Little Details [Episode 11503]

by Jryu

It's the small things that matter, in the end.

For example, take one Mr. Hugh Cotton. A minor lab technician working for Umbrella. He was just the kind of person Umbrella looked for when recruiting for their... less than legal research. He was a man with no empathy and few scruples. He cared only for himself. But since he was also rather lazy and cowardly, he wasn't going to be promoted anytime soon. The perfect worker for a project dealing with human experimentation. Right?

However, as mentioned, Mr. Cotton is a coward. When he heard the Queen of the Dead's proclamation, his first thought was to run. But then he remembered that no transportation would be arriving or available for three days! (Shifts at the lab lasted six days, with some people rotating every three days. The last rotation left that morning, before the test started...) So instead he put his mind to figuring out how to keep the Queen contained for the duration.

And then he came up with what he thought was the perfect conclusion! Without power, none of the doorways in maze would open automatically... they'd have to be physically forced open! And it wasn't like the zombies could do that, right? And that Tyrant was on an independent power source, so cutting power to the maze would not wake it up.

Of course, a minor technician like Mr. Cotton didn't know all the details of the test or the situation. He couldn't know that many of the test subjects could force open the doors. Or that his superiors had already nixed that very plan because the frankly didn't know what the 'demons' were capable of. And, since Mr. Cotton wasn't one to think before he acted, he proceeded to cut off the power.

A simple thing, really. It wasn't going to effect much. The King of Hell was still trapped in his stasis, and the Queen of the Dead still trapped with her children in the pen. It would be some time before anyone realized that the power was gone.

Almost anyone.

In a cell, back at the beginning of the maze, Hinako stirred. The electrical power that was supporting her life source was cut off. No one had planned that G-Counter would need a constant power feed, so no one ever considered putting an independent source to the cells.

Hinako's eyes opened. She was hungry. The door to her room was sealed, but as she struck at it, she knew her body was growing stronger... it was only a mater of time before she would burst through it. And outside, she knew there was some kind of power. Something she could feed on...

G-Counter was awake. All because a little man flipped a little switch...
