As time began to freeze on one after the other of the Senshi, with Dark Pluto seeking to keep them safe in temporal stasis, they saw it all take place through the Gates Of Time.
The Plague had a magical component, and so normal manners of combatting the disease were ineffective. It spread first through the East, and especially through the densely populated areas of the coasts.
The denser the population, the faster the spread. It became known as Pluto's Kiss or Pluto's Plague, though nobody was quite sure where the name came from unless it was the lead containers that had stored the virus. The final stages of the disease causing rapid aging. One week incubation period, one week to die from its ravages in most cases - at the end of which the victim had shriveled and turned gray and palsied. It was a horrible, painful, wasting death.
It also left women largely untouched, except for the effects of watching their lovers and families and friends of male gender dying all around them.
However, there were survivors among the male populace. Out of 100 men who contracted the disease, one was likely to survive. Sometimes two out of one hundred would survive. Sometimes less than that. Not without side effects though, many were crippled in some manner or fashion after the Plague had passed. Some lost all interest in sex, others were mentally crippled, still others physically harmed.
"You see," said Dark Pluto to the watching Sailor Moon. "You thought I forgot about Mamoru? He has to survive. You'll see."
Indeed, they watched as young Mamoru caught the Plague, fell ill and survived. Though not without "side effects" from his near death.
"Hmmm, I hadn't expected that," muttered Dark Pluto.
