Setsuna frowned, though this wasn't obvious to those who didn't know her well. This hadn't been the first time she'd been dismissed in such manner. All her life, people had referred to her as "stiff" or "dull" or "an android with a dead energy cell" or something along those lines. It was somewhat annoying at this point.
Minako was tired of this. She had called dibs. She was a little boy-hungry. Compared to Setsuna, voted most likely to be a zombie when she was in middle school, at least. Nothing compared to Morrigan. So why was SHE cast to the side like this? SHE didn't hate boys. SHE could have used a fiance with a hot studly body. Why couldn't SHE get a break?
Morrigan smirked but inwardly was examining the attitude that not only her father but most of her sisters had taken. She wouldn't kill the poor boy. Why would they honestly consider that possibility? He might be a bit exhausted and dehydrated by the end of the week but that was hardly dead. She might have to take the poor boy in hand just to teach him enough to satisfy Makoto, purely in her sister's best interest after all.
Felicia's mouth was downturned and by the set of her ears and tails was not happy at all.
Makoto was actually rather pleased with the new fiance. As long as he wasn't as much of a loser as Kuno was - she thought this had possibilities.
Honey and the others all found reasons to dislike that they had been dropped so quickly from consideration. Ami grew philosophical as she considered whether she was defined solely as a study-holic.
And while all this was going on, Ranma was bewildered and adding things up around him. The problem was that none of this made a whole lot of sense to him, such as one girl having a tail and ears that were obviously real or another one floating about with apparent disregard for gravity or another one studying a physics textbook with a small frown.
"Excuse me?"
"Hah?" answered Ranma, snapping back to focus on a young girl nearby. She couldn't have been more than fourteen at most, dressed in a black sort-of leotard.
"I'm Hotaru, do you want to be friends?" said the young girl and did something surprising. She smiled.
Ranma stared for a moment at that smile, stammering out something agreeable and shaking the girl's hand. He'd heard of smiles that brightened the room but this was the first time he'd ever actually seen one. Whoa.
"So," said Haruka, eyeing the boy. "I hear you're the heir of your school of martial arts. Care for a little friendly sparring?"
"Uhm, I guess," said a still-stunned and somewhat uncertain Ranma. At least he knew martial arts, it was a refuge he could flee to.
