Apparently Ranma had stumbled over some 'nature mystic' type while he was on his training journey. That person had seen something special in the young man, and proceeded to teach him to be able to use that same sort of power. It had gone extremely well, as the boy had managed to get in tune with things to a point that many never could.
Which was when he'd gotten in touch with Reacher, and they'd quickly become companions. That had led to some other adventures, including one to a shrine hidden deep in the mountains.
In that place was a beast of great power, and one that could give those energies to the one it was bound to. Raiden was a summoning beast, and had been sealed to both prevent it from running rampant, and from falling into the hands of those who might misuse it. Ranma had come in, and after a rather fierce struggle, connected with the summoning beast so that he now had powers flowing through him.
Mamoru, on the other hand, had found an old, and very sacred place where a temple stood. He'd trained there under the strict eye of his teachers. One day, a challenge came in the chamber where their most sacred relic was held, and when he'd won the battle, he'd recieved the power of Alexander.
So now they both had recieved powers from their connections, and were apparently very capable in it.
Sighing heavily to herself, Setsuna wondered just how things could have gotten this way. Ranma was supposed to be a martial artist stuck in the chaos that was his life, not consorting with spirit and summoning beasts. And Mamoru shouldn't have been a martial artist engaged to an attractive, if clumsy, older woman, but should have been back up to his destined, and younger, love.
But apparently, someone had a sense of humor, so she pursed her lips and decided to look in on:
