It was a strange day for the Tendo sisters. Today they had just learned that their mother had left a special inheritance for them, to be received when Akane turned sixteen... but the lawyers put in charge somehow got the wrong date, and they were now just receiving it: a VCR tape, and three jeweled amulets.
Nabiki placed the tape in the VCR, and the girls proceeded to watch it. On the screen, dressed in a casual dress, was their long dead mother.
"My dear girls," she said, "If you are watching this, than that means I died before I could pass this on to you. Our clan has ever had a special heritage, and a duty beyond that.
"I do hope this isn't a shock, but first you must believe that magic is quite real." Nabiki and Akane snorted at that, and even Kasumi cracked a smile. After Ranma showed up, the fact of magic became a daily part of their lives. "It has always been the duty of our clan to protect the world from forces of evil that would threaten it. To that end, were created those amulets. They will bestow upon you great power, but power that can only be used in the defense of others.
"I wish I could explain more, but the powers are different for each person. I myself had the ability to control water, while my brother could burst into flames. I wish I could be there to help you, but you will have to work out how to use your powers yourself. Know that I am watching you, that I will always love you, and I am sure, you will make me proud." The tape ended there.
The sisters looked at each other for a moment, before each taking an amulet...
