Magitech/Psitech: Psyche another path. [Episode 116130]

by Greyman

In a testing station of the Aura Development Centre, some time after the Saotome's arrival in their new world, Genma waited grumpily for the scientist to get over with it.

"The results from last week's aura scans are in, Mr. Saotome.   You and your son has a rather strong auras, but they're not quite like anything we've encountered before.   We can't assign an aura code to them yet."

"Of course not," Genma grumbled, "our battle auras feel entirely different.   We don't have anything like your powers in our world."

"That may not be quite true, Sir," the scientist objected.   "There are two types of aura uses in this world.   Those who are born with the ability, and those who managed to learn it.   Most, if not all, of the earlier are descended from a mutant strain in Europe that doesn't seem to have occurred in your world, but that isn't true of latent psychics.   They occur world wide and their gifts simply need to be identified and awoken.   We believe that you and your son might fall into the later category with the right training."

"In other words, you want us to stick around so you can keep probing us?"

"I wouldn't put it quite like that, but yes," the scientist admitted, then tried a different tactic.   "Mr. Saotome, what do you plan to do next?   What are your plans for your son's future?"

"Mmm… if we can't find a way home…" Genma mussed.

"Uh, Mr. Saotome, we have only a vague idea how you arrived in our world," the scientist interjected.   "The best sense impression our psychic investigators can come up with is that it was the result of some bizarre hyperspace 'weather'.   In effect, it's like you were picked up by a passing tornado and deposited a stranger in a strange land.   Do you expect the storm to come back and just put everything right?"

"Well, no," Genma admitted.   "It doesn't matter.   I'll train Ranma to be the best martial artist of his generation!"

"That's already a given," the scientist remarked, "seeing as how you and he are the only practitioners of your form of martial arts.   There's nothing quite like it in this world.   So, what then?   What do you plan on doing once your son has finished training?"

"Well I had planned on finding a dojo where…" Genma hesitated and amended, "uhm, where he could teach."

"That's a nice plan, but have you though of whom would he teach and what would he teach them?   I mean, what is your impression of the martial artists you've met so far?   Do you think they could learn your brand of martial arts?   Let alone an ordinary person from this world?"

"Well as to that," Genma admitted, "no."   The best this world had to offer were rather lame.   "He could teach them the basics but…"   He really didn't hold much hope for any of them surviving half the training necessary to begin practicing what he considered to be true martial arts.   "Still, perhaps we can find a student with a strong enough battle aur… oh."

"Exactly, anyone you could teach would be focused on developing their psychic potential instead.   In other words, young Ranma would simply wind up wasting his talents and the effort you put into raising him.   I have a suggestion that may be a better offer …"
