What he hadn't counted on were the truthsayers. They'd scanned him and his son for lies in their story, and found that it was completely true. So he was safe in that at least, and could have an identity, and tell anyone he wanted to about why he and his son were the only family that they had.
However, they didn't need to tell anyone, as others did that for them. Since the pair were living proof that there were other universes, scientists and psi researchers were excited over their existance. But as they weren't merely evidence of a major breakthrough, but living beings, there was a big stir caused among the public after their arrival. All sorts of questions were raised, and the media stayed glued to the pair as these were a definate human intrest story. People started considering what the two went through, and the future that awaited them.
But they didn't fall off the face of the news, and become just a chapter in a textbook once the initial shock and reaction died down. It turned out that people wanted to know how they were doing in their adjustment. That allowed for Ranma's learning of the Art, and subsequent talent in that direction to start showing up. His growing skill, and reputation meant that he was not going to be forgotten, and Genma discovered new ways to train when his old ones turned out to be detectable. There were even those who tracked the father and son's progress as they went along.
