Magitech: Psi of Relief [Episode 116131]

by Kestral

With fame came fringe benefits, or so reckoned Genma. While all this bit about psi was all very well and good, his main concern remained training Ranma. Or at least it was something to focus on as the lack of a Soun Tendo and Tendo dojo was clearly felt.

Most of the really Prime psi were European, and therefore there weren't a lot in Japan.

Esper Rank Meaning Rarity
Prime Highest Rank, more than two Gifts and extraordinary power and control. Very Rare - rarely seen in Japan, celebrity status. Less than thirty worldwide.
Adept 2nd Highest Rank, have at least two major Gifts. Telekinetics can fly themselves. Pretty Rare. There are less than 100 worldwide. Japan has one residing Adept.
B-Rank Most common high rank. May have two Gifts but are fairly powerful within those specialties. Most common high rank. There are about 1800 worldwide, with twenty in Japan.
C-Rank Powerful in a single Gift, though many have lesser power in two or more other Gifts. Common in Europe-descended countries. C-Rank is considered an average expert and licensed in most countries.
D-Rank Strong in a single Gift, most often a single specialty within that Gift is their main focus, such as the Healer's Gift among Metabolics. The single most common specialist rank. The bulk of psi fit into this category.
E-Rank Minor power in a Gift, or the control of which is uncertain. The most common of all ranks. Many who don't consider themselves psi or who lack training fit into this category.
The reaction of some to the Saotomes was quite interesting. Naturally the two of them were examined by specialists of all sorts, scientific and psi and political and others.

It was all televised and immediately gave Genma and Ranma some notoriety when they met internationally acclaimed Primes. Germany's graying Aldo Weinmarch, France's ancient Yvette Saint-Marie (thankfully not at the same time), England's unsettlingly young Vesper Rowling, and New Amsterdam's Katerine Douglas all stopped by to examine real people from another universe entirely.

Some of the hype and predictions were as quickly abandoned as they were made. The means of travelling between universes was seen as not only difficult to achieve, but steering would be a "right royal pain" as Vesper put it. SEEING other universes was seen as much more likely to occur, but figuring out the means would take awhile.

Psionics was still in its infancy as a science, pointed out the experts. While the science had flourished and begun really expanding in the 20th Century - several key points at the heart of it all remained unanswered. While Primes and Adepts were both capable of wresting energy from a generator in order to powerup their Gift, particularly useful for a Teek, C and D ranks often couldn't even tell if a generator was running in the next room.

Of course, both were examined for being Sleepers. If the Gift lay slumbering within their genetic makeup, then that would mean that there wasn't that much difference between their respective universes.

It was quickly discovered that the Saotome gift for using chi, which was necessary for high level manifestations of their own Art such as leaping to rooftops, was vaguely related to the breakout of psi. Theories quickly began about a Han steppes warrior spreading this parallel Gift, and thereby parallelling in a more limited way the spread of psi in their current world. Which might not be accurate, but it was familiar enough as to give laypeople a grasp of Ranma's world of origin and how it related to their own.

Then the two were left to their own devices, at least apparently, but there had been a side effect of all the experiments and testing. That being:
