Kuno, sure of himself and his abilities, charged right into the room he had seen earlier. Surely this was the way out!
The other followed him, not because of any ability as a leader he possessed, but rather out of a desire to stick together. Okay, and because some of them wanted to pound Kuno into paste themselves for being so bone-headed.
There were little lights in the room, but now that he was in it, Kuno caught the overwhelming smell of the living dead. "Perhaps I was a bit hasty..." he mumbled to himself.
The glowing eyes of dozens of Kuang-shi seemed to indicate agree with that assessment.
It quickly became a free-for-all, as the enhanced martial artists fought the super-zombies, but the Kuang-shi were definitely loosing.
"Ha! This isn't as bad as I thought it would be!" Akane said out loud as she destroyed two Kuang-shi with a single swing from her arm. Then something struck her back, and she felt like she was burning! She screamed, and tried rolling out the flames, but that did nothing for what had struck her.
Ryoga looked for what had happened, and saw a disturbing sight. The ex-Golden Pair, now obviously dead. Both Mikado and Azusa had the glowing eyes associated with the Kuang-shi... but they were also glowing themselves, with an unearthly, red light. Not a battle-aura exactly, but something similar...
As he watched, Mikado raised his arm, and the aura condensed there... Ryoga barely dodged out of the way of the blast as it flew at him. The Kuang-shi behind him just dropped, truly dead, from the attack... no wonder it had hurt Akane despite her tough hide!
Ryoga faced these new threats... and considered that maybe this time, he really was in Hell...
