"Of course I could," the Wizard replied, "I'm just not sure what I could change it to."

Stepping forwards into the hanger, Ranma looked up at the Ingram standing tall in front of her and grinned. This was no mere toy, but a serious Labor designed for police action. It was the top of the line Patlabor from Shinohara Industries, and needed the best pilots that it could get, which in this case was her.
Sure, a lot of people thought that a girl wouldn't be the first choice for piloting something that was supposed to go in to deal with the big emergencies. In order to even get respect, she'd had to deal with guys who thought that a curvy and short redhead was more for fetching coffee or hitting upon, which resulted in her having to do a lot of hitting. But she was a great martial artist, and when she'd gotten the chance to be a Patlabor pilot, she'd jumped at it.
This wasn't issuing parking tickets, or breaking up street brawls. It was going to be the tough stuff, and she was excited for the chance to face it. She'd liked Labors ever since she'd first seen one, as they were big and tough. As a child, she'd liked the idea of being a mecha pilot and smashing through the bad guys, and now she had the chance to do just that.
She even had a name for her new Labor.
Patting the leg of her Patlabor, she grinned and looked up at it. "We're going to be the best team 'round, aren't we Alphonse? Right buddy?"
Though the Labor stayed silent, she thought that she could almost feel it answer while she:
