"Oh! Brenda, there you are!" Julia said in a thoroughly relieved tone. "Your school called and said you didn't come today." Then her toned turned dead serious. "Where've you been all this time?"
"I...missed the bus," Brenda said weakly. "And I was running...and then I...uh..."
"She got stuck in wolf form," Britanny said, smiling broadly, like any little kid that was relating something they thought was funny.
"You...changed," Julia said seriously, turning to her daughter.
"Uh...yeah," Brenda said. "I don't know what happened Mom, I...I just wanted to catch the bus and...and...then I was a doggie..."
"And then she tried to steal Dani's lunch," Britanny said, smiling again and holding up the lunchbox in question.
"Uh...heh," Brenda said nervously as her mother looked darkly down at her. "I was starving."
"You still shouldn't..." Julia paused in mid-speech. "Wait a minute." She turned to eye the younger girl very closely and arched an eyebrow. "Excuse me, what's your name little girl?"
"Oh, I'm sorry," Britanny said. Surprisingly, the girl entered into an attention stance and bowed formally before Julia. "I am Britanny Elin Saotome of the Saotome School of Indiscriminate Grappling." Then she turned casual again and looked embarrassed. "Daddy always says I should introduce myself quicker."
"Okay," Julia said in the mock serious tone an adult takes when humoring a child that was acting like an adult. "And how do you know about werewolves, Miss Britanny Elin Saotome of the Saotome School of Indiscriminate Grappling?"
"My mommy's a werewolf," Britanny declared loudly and cheerfully.
"Really?" Julia said, looking to the girl's blonde hair.
"But she turns into a cat, Mom," Brenda said.
"A...cat?" Julia said, turning somewhat pale for a moment. "Britanny, are either of your parents home?"
"Nope," Britanny said. "Mommy's going and being a police woman and Dad's got a tournament today until after school."
"Oh, hmmm," Julia said. "Please come in, do you have the number I can reach either of your parents?"
"Uh huh," Britanny said. "I know Mommy's work number and they can call her car."
"Good," Julia said. "Now, come in and we'll make some sandwiches for you."
"Do you have tuna?" Britanny asked.
"I think Gina has a couple of cans left," Julia said. "I don't think she'd mind if we borrowed some."
