Lenny stared at Jetta with pleading eyes, from his seat behind his desk. "Jetta, can you please stop talking about her? It's bad enough that you drag me to every one of her fights."
Jetta, sitting beside her partner on a chair facing the opposite direction, shrugged. "What, you don't like it?"
"Not when I watch it more times a week than I go to church every month," Lenny remarked, grimacing as he had to fill out the paperwork; ironically, most of it concerned the two detectives more than the perpetrators.
The phone on the desk next to Lenny's squawked out the words, "Saotome, pick up line four." Jetta rolled her eyes as she picked up the reciever, and pressed the corresponding button.
"Detective Saotome here," she said.
"Mrs. Jetta Saotome?" the voice on the other end of the line asked. Jetta frowned at the somewhat nasal voice the woman had.
"This is her."
"This is Decatur Elementary, your daughter's school. It appears that Miss Britanny had left the school grounds during her lunch time."
"Damn!" Jetta hissed, causing Lenny to look up from his work. "Do you know why she left?" Jetta asked the woman.
The woman sniffed at the police officer using foul language, and continued. "According to several children, she was chasing a dog who had stolen another girl's lunch," she replied, obviously not believing it.
Jetta blinked several times. "... What?"
"I know that it sounds unlikely, but I was calling to see if she had returned home, or went to either your or your husband's workplace."
Jetta thought for a few moments. "She hasn't came by here, and my husband doesn't work near the school. I'll go to my house and check to see if she's there, then I'll come to the school," she responded.
"Very well. Also, we wished to contact your husband, but his work phone number is not listed..."
Jetta shook her head, even though she knew that the woman could not see it. "No, that's all right. Good bye." With that, she hung up the phone.
Lenny was looking at her with a stoic expression. "Your kid?" Jetta nodded.
"She's not at school, so I'm going to look for her," she replied, standing up to grab her jacket. Lenny nodded, joining her.
"And you're going to do your 'spider sense' or whatever the hell you do?" Lenny joked weakly. Jetta rolled her eyes; it was a known rumor within the force that Jetta could figure out who did whatever crime on the scene; that was the main reason why she got bumped up to a detective so quickly.
"Lenny, shut up," she ordered jokingly, though a bit of worridness tinged her words, just as the phone announced, "Saotome, pick up line two." Jetta looked at the phone wearily, wondering what else was going to happen.
