However, she had been feeling a growing distance between her and Ranma, and, not understanding what was going on, she had reacted...poorly.
Namely she had more or less ignored the situation while growing more suspicious and hostile.
Still she knew she had to talk to Ranma about. It was just that her attitude had changed the appropriate "I'm worried about things" thought to the more unreasonable. "I'm going to KILL him!"
She had been looking for an excuse to blow up for a while now.
"Look at this foot!!" Akane snapped. "What did you do!?"
"It looks more like he crushed his own foot in doing something unadvised," Ranma said firmly with a grim face.
"Don't give me that," Akane snapped. "You've been acting strange a lot recently! Going out and vanishing for hours. Barely talking to anybody, getting techniques from that Amazon floozy...and now carrying with one of my sister's schemes!"
Ranma had been hanging back and rubbing the bridge of his nose in consternation. That is until Akane had talked about Nabiki.
"Nabiki is not getting any money out of this," Ranma said firmly.
"Sure," Akane said. "Nabiki isn't squeezing everything she..."
"Nabiki. Is. Not. Getting. Money. Out. Of. This." Ranma repeated. Akane opened her mouth and Ranma stopped her. "Listen, Akane, you've been turning into nothing but a pile of insults and violence the last four weeks. The ONLY thing that's going on is I'm training myself BEFORE trouble comes rather than in response to it! Do you think, after SAFFRON, that I'd go around expecting myself to be ready for everything without preparation? You almost DIED Akane!" Akane backed off a moment. "There was no chance to go off to train and return to fight a rematch and save your life THEN!!"
"Oh please," Akane said. "You ALWAYS win!"
"I do not!" Ranma said. "And I only beat Saffron because I was really...REALLY lucky! If you think I want a repeat of THAT situation because I'm too lazy to improve myself BEFORE a battle arises...you got another thing coming."
"And why don't you trust ME with these things?" Akane demanded.
"Because you don't trust ME!" Ranma snapped. Then he calmed down. "Akane, this is pointless."
"Why do you say THAT?" Akane asked, suddenly nervous.
"Because, Ranma has responsibilites now..." Kasumi said.
"Shampoo...you...you," Akane stuttered. "But the Tendo contract!"
"Will be fulfilled," Ranma said. "Just not with you."
"Nabiki is pregnant," Kasumi said softly, deciding to break it to Akane then.
"You," Akane said. "And Nabiki? Behind my..."
"No," Ranma said. "Though THAT accusation makes sense. There was the technique called the 'Nirvana Massage'" Ranma said. "It SEEMED to be just a technique for cleansing chi...and Nabiki really needed something to cleanse her chi, she wasn't really healthy...but anyway...there was a side effect..."
"A side effect?" Akane asked shocked beyond anger for the moment.
"The technique is also called 'the Touch of the Virgin Mother.'" Kasumi said.
"You mean," Akane said. "Nabiki is pregnant...but still a virgin..."
