Nodoka began to walk forward prepared to chastise her son (how could he take advantage of his father's distraction, dishonorable) when both she and Ranma froze.
The clear water wasn't clear, it slowly began to shift to a bloody red, disturbing the mother and child. It wasn't the color itself that filled them with dread however, so much as it was the feeling of doom filling the air. It only seemed to get worse though, the crimson shade quickly shifted to black and the fearful aura quickly shifted from scary to a miasma of crippling terror.
It felt, like death Ranma supposed, as a deep seated survival instincts were smothered by the oppressive force released from the water. Death, filled with bile, and hate, and mercilessness, and greed, andenvyandslothimbezzlementbetrayallustrapeVILEVILEVIL EVIL-
And it disappeared as the blackness quickly joined together leaving pristine water in its wake.
Ranma stared at the circle of blackness in the center of the pool. Terrified out of his wits, not that he'd admit it to himself he glanced over at the redheaded woman. If he was scared then she was an absolute wreck. On her knees and staring into the pool her chest heaved, desperately attempting to gain breath. Who was sh, and what was she doing in training grounds? She certainly didn't seem like a martial artiMOVEMENT. His eyes jerked back to the pool and he quickly got into a fighting stance. The shadow in the water was moving slow enough so he edged his way between it and the woman. He would keep her safe, she didn't seem trained and it was his duty.
The shadow began to raise from the water and Ranma tensed...
Before gaping in disbelief, this is what he'd been afraid of!? A somewhat short figure, somewhere around five and a half feet tall, it looked like a mockery of the human figure. It had no legs, or arms, and its head flowed upward into round points like a demented child's playtoy crown. With a body colored mottled brown and purple bile(?) flowing from its mouth it looked like a child's imaginary friend reimagined by an asylum inmate.
Ranma stared at the... thing, as it slowly shifted getting a view of its surroundings before its beady black eyes caught sight of the woman behind Ranma.
"Nodoka!" the strange thing warbled happily in a high pitched voice. It began to walk, no, shift foward and Ranma snapped back into form, ready to fight.
"U-oho?" the thing stopped and stared at Ranma before continuing in its high voice, "Ranma! Trying to keep your father from greeting your mother! How have I raised such a child?" Without a change in inflection or expression it shook it's head in an attempt at self-recrimination while Ranma and Nodoka stared in disbelief.
"Pops/Genma?" the two questioned in unison before turning to stare at each other.
Ranma, deciding he wanted some answers bustled on, "The hell is goin' on?" A cough sounded being him, both him and Nodoka jumping in response.
"As I tried to tell honored customers," the guide that Ranma had honestly forgotten about began, "pool was cursed, things drown in pool, and things fall in after are cursed. Hot water changes back to normal and cold changes to curse form."
"So how the hell do I break the curse?" Ranma burst out, deciding to put the bit about the redheaded 'wife' out of mind until more important issues were resolved.
The guide was about to answer before a high voice cut him off.
"You're so hopeless Ranma-kun," the thin- Genma said.
Before Ranma could deliver a far more cutting insult a knife flew through the air so quickly he could barely see it before landing in a completely different pool than the one Genma himself had risen from.
"Oh No," Genma stated in despair(?), "my 'Curse-Breaker Kit' fell into the pool, "how will I be cured now?" After that fearful(?) exclamation Genma stared intently at Ranma. The guide opened his mouth to speak, and closed it just as quickly when those... eyes turned to him.
Ranma's gaze flicked between the pool and Genma, "Why don't ya get it yourself?"
In response Genma merely glanced at his arms, or lack of arms before resuming his stare.
Of course Ranma had to deal with his pops problems Ranma thought bitterly, well at least the guide only mentioned that one pool being cursed, right? So he mulled it over in his head.
Obviously the best course of action was to...
