“No.” The woman shook her head in the negative, not taking her eyes of the youth in front of her.
“Oh.” The pig-tailed martial artist replied. When the woman continued to watch him carefully while maintaining her silence, the youth sighed. “So,” he began, his voice betraying his nervousness. “How you related to Pops?”
“Excuse me?” Julia blinked several times before narrowing her eyes.
Waving a hand in the general direction of his father, Ranma began to talk. “Just found out that my pop wasn’t my pop. So I swam on over to look up my real pop. Anyway, I was just making sure when he passed out and these three idiots wanted to snatch him.” He paused for a second while studying the woman in front of him. Julia was surprised to see recognition light up the boy’s eyes. “Oh, I get it. You’re the chick that was cursed, huh?” He asked with all the tact and grace of a ghetto gang-banger.
“Pardon me?” Julia hissed. She took a step forward towards the pig-tailed boy as she clenched her fists. “Are you trying to tell me that my ‘husband’ is your father?”
Unbeknownst to most people that have contact with the socially retarded martial artist, Ranma was trained diligently by Genma to respond to a variety of different emotions the same way: insults. It doesn’t matter what emotion he’s currently experiencing, insults were the bread and butter of Anything Goes. After all, an angry opponent makes LOTS of mistakes. Of course, Genma failed to instill a sense of tact in the boy so that he could deal with anything outside the arena of combat.
Ranma blinked rapidly for a second before his face scrunched up in confusion. “Didn’t I just say that?” Perhaps, if he wasn’t feeling so nervous, things would have been a little different. Instead, confusion was rapidly replaced by his standard smirk. “Want me to run down and pick up some of them old folks vitamins to pump up yer hearing?”
