Castle Rat: The Slaughter [Episode 119017]

by Thrythlind

The sun set on the end of a long and painful day in the Appalachians. The shadows began to pool over the tiny chapel that sat in the midst of a beehive of law enforcement activity.

"Well, what the..." the sheriff paused a moment as he remembered where he was. "What happened here?"

He stepped into the building and holding a hand up to his nose to ward off the smell of the spilled blood. Numerous bodies lay strewn about, and, in the center, a person was nailed to the wall by an ornate dagger. A smell of burning hung about the figure, rising up from their sliced wounds, still smoking in places. At her feet were two other figures lying stretched out in the dust.

"Someone came in and slaughtered the evening mass, sheriff," one of the on site officers said.

"I see that," the sheriff said. "Mind saying whether we have a reason?"

"We think it's this one, sir," he said pointing to the figure held against the wall. "Is it okay to take it down?"

"Should be fine," one of the CSI techs said. "Need to soon anyway."

The officer reached up to grab the dagger and wrench it free of the body and wall. As he did so, the body's eyes snapped open and she reached out to snap hands around the policeman's throat for a few seconds before passing out again, tumbling over the shocked police officer.

"I'd suggest someone calling the ambulance," the sheriff called out. "This one is still alive."

"...pulse is strong..."

"...what did they do, heat the knife before cutting her?"

"...strangest burns I've ever seen..."

"...stabilizing, not waking up..."

"...long-term...unit..."

*****

It was much later when the figure finally snapped awake.
