Interstellar Space - Roughly In The Direction Of Wolf 424 - Heading: Sol - ETA: 3.53 Terran Days
Ru Baraba Dom sighed.
His fleet, operating from the cruiser Doroume, had been searching for the illusive planet Earth intermittently for the past few years, with no success whatsoever. Of course, it didn't help that the little information they had on its location was sketchy at best.
Eight years ago, the Salusian Conglomerate had approached the Holy Raalgon Empire with the proposal to join them as a subsidiary state. The Raalgons refused of course, though an idea had been planted into the head of Premier Wang, Chief Advisor to the Royal Family.
Wang secretly contacted the Conglomerate delegation and promised that if there would be a change of power in the current Raalgon government, the new regime would support the Salusians. Intrigued with the proposal, the ambassador and Wang spent the rest of their meeting discussing plans.
Scarcely seven months later, a supposedly Zardon assassin killed his majesty, the Emperor. What followed was an understandable increase in pro-Salusian thought and Minister of Affairs Wang pledging Raalgon support to the Conglomerate. With Princess Azalyn not yet being at the age of ascension, it fell to the Chief Advisor to temporarily fill in as head of government.
Years later, when she was nearing the age she could claim the throne, an attempted assassination of her highness was foiled. A servant had entered Azalyn's bedchambers to awaken her, only to find a drunken Wang attempting to smother her to death.
One truth serum enforced interrogation later had revealed the whole thing.
Every citizen was enraged. Immediately, any ambassadors in Conglomerate borders were withdrawn, and all trade relations with Salusia were nullified. Now Empress Azalyn assumed leadership of the Holy Raalgon Empire at the tender age of 16.
Though they weren't the only victims of political upheaval resulting from the Zardon/Salusia affair. At nearly the same time all this was happening in the Raalgons' neck of the woods, the Zardon Empire was attempting to sink its claws into one of their trading partners: the Atlantean Kingdom.
Using the nearly forgotten arts of Technomagery, the Atlantean Gyphon had attempted to seize control of the Atlantean homeworld, Atlan. It was only with the help of their allies, the Amaran Federation, that Gyphon was pushed back. Armaggedon, the amalgam of Technomancy and Biotechnology that the Zardons had helped Gyphon to create, was destroyed, but at a cost. An entire seventh of Atlan had been contaminated by the antimatter explosives necessary to take the abomination down.
After all of this, the Raalgons, Atlanteans, Amarans, and the Amarans' trading partner, the Ctarl-Ctarl Empire, met an permanently allied themselve in order to remain neutral and protected from any further dealing with either Zardon or Salusia. Thus had been formed the Four Nations Alliance.
The whole searching for Earth business had been the Ctarl-Ctarls' idea. It seams that, fifteen years previous, a wormhole had opened above one of their colony worlds, depositing a space probe in orbit. After study of the probe and various tests on the site of it's appearance, it was found that the wormhole was a naturally occurring, EXTREMELY unstable, 'hole' between two places in space.
Because of the nature of it's instability, it was determined that the wormhole could only of transported the probe for so far before it couldn't maintain it's integrity and collapsed. Thus was formed the logical idea it's place of origin must be farely close, as evidenced by both the probe's intact condition and apparent time of existance, judging by the decay rate of it's power source.
With no way of knowing how long the probe had been in the wormhole, with the warped state of time in the apparent sub-demension the 'hole' existed in, it was entirely possible that the probe's creators might have advanced significantly and, therefore, be possible allies for the FNA.
After translating the text on the probe, it was discoverd to be designated 'Pioneer 10'.
Transmissions recently received from the area of space they were now approacing showed similarities to the coded messages used by the probe, and thus, why they were invastigating. Using their Sub-Ether Drives, they should reach their destination in around five standard days (slightly over 3 and a half to us Earthers).
Hmm, he ponderd. I wonder if this will even be worth it.

Meanwhile, the commander of the Omega 'EAS Soyokaze', Captain Justin Tylor, wondered just how there could be such a strong chill in a starship.
