Okay, the last maybe half an hour had been very interesting, especially the reaction of the Salusians to Ryans chief of staff, Brian Wilson, an older man who had gotten himself turned into a skunk-Meta. Brian was a very capable man and his employment, combined with some other staffer who were metas, showed that the government was on the Metas side. Especially with some Neo-Nazi and fundamentalist groups who hated all metas.
"King Jerka of the Salusian Conglomerate," Captain Soandso slowly stated,"wishes to establish diplomatic contact to Earth by marrying his daughter Arisal to a human."
In the silence following one could have heard a pin dropping to a carpend floor. Ryan and every other human in the room, normal or Meta, were silent and stared at the Salusians in suprise. After a few moments Ryan breathed in deep and closed his eyes for a moment.
"One moment please, I have to get some advice."
With that he pushed a small button in front of him and turned his back to the Salusians, his chief of staff and his few advisors following suit.
The Salusians blinked a few times at that and Soandso looked on the tricorder, he had opened hidden under the desk. The glance on it showed that the room was split into two section by an akustic curtain of white noise, covering everything that was said on the other side without being very loud. But the white noise wasn't the only thing that hid the conversation. White EM noise also disabled most listening devices.
Soandso frowned a bit. He would never know what the President and his advisors said.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I don't really know what do think about this," Ryan said in a low voice," Marrying your daughter to someone random to establish diplomatic contact?"
"They are aliens, sir," Wilson said," They may look like skunk-Metas, but they are still aliens. We can't anticipate that we understand them on our first meeting."
Ryan sighed.
"You are right, Brian."
"Sir, with this I guess it wouldn't be to bold if we ask them for something in return," Jason Miller, the military advisor, said," As an act of good will."
Ryan looked at Miller.
"An act of good will?"
Miller nodded.
"Yes, sir."
"And what would you ask for?"
"Star charts, sir. And general information about the political situation of the galaxy. General star charts without any military benefit."
They were silent for a few moments.
"That is a good idea," Wilson said," It would really help with our relations to some of the largest lobbies in the Senate and the parliament."
Ryan raised an eyebrow.
"Oh?"
Wilson chuckled.
"That should be enough to get the colonization, industry, trade and military lobbies from breathing down our necks when we let this opportunity slide."
Ryan nodded, even since the first colonization outside of Earth, the colonization Lobby had tried to get the government to allow colonizing other systems, but up until now they didn't have the opportunity to actualize their own star charts, being a left over from the original owners of Babylon 5. The up to date only Explorer, the EAS 'Nomad' was to be the first ship to leave the solar system, aside from pirates maybe. But now that there were two First Contact situations, one with the Salusians and the second with the Zentraedi, the 'Nomad' couldn't leave the Solar System.
"You are right. But we could ask for them while asking to get an escort to the home planet of the Salusians to establish diplomatic contact with them from our end, by establishing a embassy."
The advisors nodded and they turned back around to face the Salusians. The white noise curtain fell together and Ryan smiled a bit forced.
"I think we can make that possible, Captain. Do you require something for that?"
Soandso shook his head.
"No, we still have some of our old data from the old embassy from 2003 and randomly choose a groom for Princess Arisal already."
He looked down at his tricorder.
"His name is Jeremy Feeble. He has to be of the same age as the princess."
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Somewhere on the Zocalo of Babylon 5, Jeremy Feeble sneezed a few times.
'I must be coming down with something,' he thought as he rubbed his nose.
"Hey, elf-boy," a voice said behind him.
He blinked. It had been quite some time, since he had been called that. Thanks to a lost bet he had to get himself a very small metafication, choosing a set of elf or vulcan like ears. Well, it was certainly better than the guy who lost a bet and had to get himself a complete Metafication to a panda.
He turned around and looked into the face of a girl and two boys in his age, all were smiling and clothed in sort of medievel clothes.
"Ready to save Niewinter?"
He chuckled and patted his staff.
"Whenever you are ready."
Today he and his buddies would waste the time of playing an adaption of 'Neverwinter Nights' for the Holoroom, a Holodeck imitation, Triax had coughed up a few years ago.
