???Ken: Sibling Moment [Episode 119907]

by Kender

Leaning on the bridge's railing, Ranma looked down into the water as it reflected the lights around it. It seemed to fit, as it was always changing, never staying the same, but having some regularity. That was how he'd seen things before, as there was always a structure to things, where he was the protective elder sibling, but without it getting boring. He knew that there could be plenty of reasons for what happened, however, it would not changed the fact that he'd failed his sister just when she'd needed him most.

And not being able to protect her hurt most of all.

"Ranma?" came a voice from behind him, and he stiffened before turning to look at his sister.

"Ami," he replied, his jaw tightening slightly. "What are you doing here?"

"Looking for you. I... I was worried about you."

"I'm fine. Don't concern yourself about it."

"I have to. And if anything, you look worse..."

"Gee... thanks..."

An embarrassed flush rose up in her cheeks. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to say it like that."

"I know."

"But still... We need to talk. I mean... You just left, and I... I didn't know why."

"I... needed to think."

"About what? I am here for you."

"Don't I know that...," he grumbled.

"Am I a problem now?"

"No! Of course not! You're my sister, and I love you. Nothing will change that!"

"Then what's the problem with my help."

"It's not your help that I'm worried about."

"Then whose?"

"Mine."

"Huh?" she said in obvious confusion, "What does that mean?"

"It means that you were in danger, and all I could do was get beat up. I'm the one who's supposed to protect you, and what happens? I get beat by a monster."

"Well... I'm okay, right?"

"Because you changed into one of those Sailor Senshi."

"Oh my..."

"I saw you," her brother told her, "you transformed into some sort of superheroine, and did what I should have done for you."

"I..."

"Of course I can't be sure of just how long you've been keeping that secret from me. Putting yourself into danger, and not even letting me know. I... I used to think that you told me everything..."

"I do! Just... not this..."

"Right..."

"It's true!" Ami insisted. "How could I tell you? I wanted to but... I could never see a way to do that. How could I put it rationally that I was a reincarnated girl from an ancient kingdom who was now a magical girl? I... well... I wasn't allowed to say anything. Besides..."

"Yes?"

"I know you. Mom would have simply tried to arrange things to keep me safe. But you? At the first sign of trouble, you'd be charging off to face the monsters, and you'd get hurt. I couldn't allow that. Even if you still managed to do it anyway."

"Fat lot of good my attack did."

"Well... they are magical in nature."

"'Magic'? You, the girl who once picked apart a birthday magician's tricks are satisfied with just that."

"Uh... no, but I've learned to deal with it. Still, it takes more than just normal strength to fight them. and as a Senshi, I have it."

"And I don't."

"But that's fine by me. Let me protect you for a change. You're my brother, and have been taking care of me for as long as I can remember. I want to be the one that watches out for you and Mom this time."

"You shouldn't have to," he growled.

"I know, but you can't protect me from this."

"Doesn't mean that I don't want to."

"I know," she said with a soft smile for him while:
