"It's nice of you to stop by," the young man replied, "Even if it's a surprise."
"Well, it's not easy for our schedule to meet easily."
"And never here."
"It's not like you like scheduling visits here."
"Perhaps I just have to wonder why a doctor who's never been my doctor would want to visit me."
She gave a crooked smile. "I simply have been concerned about you ever since that first day that I heard a little boy sniffling when I was a resident."
"Yet you don't visit a lot."
"With the amount of work, seminars and people demanding my time, I don't see my daughter as much as I'd like."
"Is that so..?" he drawled.
"Yes, and that's why I've come."
"Oh? Why would you come because of that?"
"Because I want to arrange an omiai between my daughter and you."
That had Ranma twirling around to stare at her. "What did you say?!"
"Exactly what you heard."
"It can't be true. After all, I couldn't have heard you say that you want me to have an omiai with your daughter."
"But I did."
"Is your daughter so problematic that you have to drop what I am on her."
"What you are is perfectly fine. I just want Ami happy."
"Huh?"
"Ami simply needs the opportunity to meet a boy she might like. She only has female friends, and even if they are nice, and have gotten her to enjoy things a girl her age should, she hasn't ever been comfortable around boys. In fact, the last boy she was interested in hasn't been around for so long I don't think he's coming back."
"Are you sure that she's just a... person who's not interested?"
"Oh, I've seen how she reacts around boys she likes. As a person, she's sweet, caring, and intelligent. But she's shy and likes books, both of which aren't exactly the sort of thing that a lot of boys look for."
"But you think I would."
"I do," the doctor replied, "You're intelligent and educated enough to connect. What you've been through will let you look past appearances, and you both have a great interest in scientific things."
"I see..."
"And what's your answer?"
