"Oh, how cute," said Misty, seeing the innocent looking jelly creature blinking wide blue eyes.
"RARHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" went the creature, shifting its mouth from small to a credible imitation of fang-rimmed gullet.
"Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!" exclaimed Misty as the creature expanded out from what turned out to be a fetal sort of position.
"ohhh," came a voice from a loudspeaker that Misty recognized as belonging to Professor Oak. "That's a rare one."
Misty backed up to the door and tried the handle, trying to smile reassuringly at the creature, and sweating very heavily when she couldn't open the only exit. "let me out. now please."
"Go ahead Misty, you have to defeat your spirit animal to bond with it," said Professor Oak from somewhere behind at least twelve inches of armor plate. "You can do it."
"Let me OUT!" shouted Misty, now yanking openly at the door.
"Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr," said the creature, bringing a clawed (or was it just jelly shaped like claws) hand down to palm the top of Misty's head.
"eeeeeeeeeeeeeeep," eeeped Misty.
"Misty, you need to defeat that spirit animal quickly."
"How exactly am I supposed to do THAT?!" questioned Misty as she was lifted up by the crown of her head. "This day is getting REALLY sucky."
The creature gaped wide its fang-rimmed mouth and lifted Misty up as if she were a submarine sandwich. Misty stared and seemed paralyzed as she found herself facing a still-widening maw as the creature now seemed mostly mouth.
There was some smacking and other less definable noises in the chamber briefly.
"Uhm, Professor," said Ash's voice over the intercom. "Was it SUPPOSED to eat her?"
PTOOO!
"-and spit out her clothes?"
"Errr, no. Not really," said the Professor's voice. "But look, the spirit beast is assimilating her."
Jelly-like skin shifted to pale ivory, clawed limbs retracted into mostly-human hands and feet, and something vaguely resembling Misty was taking shape.
"Wasn't SHE supposed to assimilate IT?" asked Ash.
"Well, yes, that IS the way it normally works," admitted the Professor.
"Is that Misty now, or is that the spirit animal?" asked Ash.
"I'm checking that now," said Professor Oak. "Brainwave patterns matched. That's-"
