Now he went from school to school in effort to find one that could take him further in the Art, to levels where he COULD protect his sister.
Something basic he'd realized was that in order to fight an unconventional enemy, there had to be some unconventional fighting style to fight it.
So he'd written a note to his mother that he was going on a quest to find a secret art to defeat someone who'd managed to beat him. Which was true actually, he'd just worded it in such a way that she wouldn't necessarily expect something inhuman being the opponent.
He challenged one after the other of promising schools, anything that promised an increase in his skill level. This one had a name that somehow rang a bell, though he couldn't place it. If it hadn't been for that recognition, he wouldn't have stuck around. The place was pretty rundown and the dojo a small one. No indication that any students actually learned here.
"I see, so you are on a quest to learn powerful techniques so that you can defend your sister against an opponent who has techniques beyond your own mastery of the Art," said Soun, looking over the young boy before him. "Why my school? I haven't taught students since my wife passed away."
"Mainly it was something about the name of your school that just sounded familiar somehow," said the boy. "I'm not sure where or how I've heard of it before."
"I'm not sure," hedged Soun Tendo.
"I bring a letter from one of the sensei I studied under," said Ranma, placing the letter before him. It had been a stroke of inspiration on his part and it HAD opened a few doors on this quest of his.
"Hmmm?" said Soun, taking the letter and unfolding it. "Ah, Master Shidou of the Shidou School Of Karate. A minor school, comparitively."
Ranma bit his tongue. The Shidou dojo was five times the size of this one and had students practicing regularly. He'd learned the techniques like Eagle Claw there that could dent an engine block. "So, can we have a trial by martial arts to determine if my journey ends here?"
