And so, over the following weeks, Kusari became a member of the Saotome household--indeed, almost the family. At first, Ranma and Akane's three children had been hostile to the winged girl, but they had gradually gotten used to it. Soon, Kusari learned the basics of Anything Goes, and became a match for any of the Saotome children. Ranma, always sympathetic towards the Kuno child, had taught her most of what she knew, and even helped her adapt the style to include her wings.

Things seemed to be going well, almost two months since the outsider initially landed in their backyard, when...

• During a light spar, Kusari suddenly went berserk, tearing into Ranma with a feral look in her eyes.
• Kusari began to develop affection for Makoto, the Saotome's oldest son.
• Gosunkugi arrived at their door, intent on finding the magic energy that he sensed around here.
• The witch who had cursed Kusari came back, saying she wanted to make a bargain.
• Kusari fell extremely ill.
• Something unexpected happened.
