In the Diaspora, Earth had faced a great calamity. (Details of which Ash had apparently slept through during class.) Dozens of ships had taken off for the great unknown, carrying the seeds of life.
A little over one hundred years ago, the ship Rainbow Archer had landed and been disassembled for its parts to settle this world, which had been given the thoroughly unimaginative name of Earth 2. (Other names had been proposed but had gotten bogged down in committee and political infighting.)
The ruins were discovered in the first orbital survey, and exploration of them began after the first year.
The first pokegirls were created in Von Daniken, the name given to the largest such complex on the Fairweather Continent. The initial survey team never returned - but had apparently gotten something started with the various pokegirls showing up one planetary day later. Some escaped into the wild and were strong but dangerous. Others became pampered pets.
They had a need to belong in many cases, a pack or tribe mentality. Humans were quite acceptable as dominant members of the pack or tribe.
Due to some problems with this particular world, such as the scarcity of certain metals and chemical combinations, pokegirls quickly caught on as a "stopgap" to cover things which could not be manufactured under the current conditions.
Of course, this arrangement had lasted and was now in the third generation.
Ash/Ranma finally came to the large complex which was Professor Oak's compound. He wheezed and gasped as he passed the front gate, finally making his way to the front door of the lab itself. Trying to catch his breath, he entered to find:
