Diagon Alley – Shopping and then some planning to attend to.

"Ah, Ollivander's Wands. This is the place that witch told us to go. Dudley, you can sit and play on your portable game. Earplugs only, mind you!" Petunia opened the door and herded her children into the game. It had been such a trying day for her.
Harriet looked around. Stacks and stacks of boxes lined the walls and the shelves. "Ah, a new witch, I take it? May I have your name? Welcome to Ollivander's Wands." An old, creepy looking man appeared suddenly out of the shadows. "What is your wand arm?"
Harriet looked at her mother with a questioning gaze. She shrugged finally. "Harriet Dursley. I'm right handed, I guess."
Ollivander pulled out a tape measure and started to measure her arm, fingers and different things. With a start, Harriet realized that the tape was continuing to measure even as Ollivander was starting to pull boxes down.
After many, many unfruitful tries, Ollivander (in a happy state, mind you) pulled out another box. "I had thought that this wand might be for a young boy, perhaps. But maybe it's just for you! Holly, with a phoenix feather."
Harriet picked it up and gold and red sparklers shot out. "Oh, is it supposed to do that?"
Dudley just stared in awe at that. His sister was really going to learn magic! Petunia just smiled.
"Yes, yes. Odd indeed, that wand. The phoenix that gave that core gave but one more feather. And that was used to do great things. Terrible things, but still great indeed." Ollivander eyed the girl closely.
"Oh really? Who's wand was that?" Harriet asked, flicking it around a bit, experimentally.
"Voldemort, of course." Ollivander was quite surprised by the non-reaction of the children, but the older muggle woman's anger was quite strange.
"Who, sir? Should I know that name?" she asked.
"You will learn about him in school. He was stopped by a young boy, just about your age. The most remarkable thing. Just a baby, but the most powerful wizard of the age had his most powerful spell rebound upon him."
Harriet froze, realizing who the baby must have been. With a dry voice, she asked, "How much for the wand, sir?"
"Seven galleons."

The rest of the day was spent buying all of the items they needed. At the owl post, Petunia asked about owls a bit. Considering that Harriet would only be able to be owled at Hogwarts, she followed their advice and bought a fine owl for the girl.
"You better not even think about touching my owl!" Harriet said fiercely to her brother.
"It's just a dumb bird!" Dudley retorted.
"I swear I'll read up on how to hex you with a pigs snout if my new owl has any problems at all!" the young girl seemed quite adamantant about this. "You remember what happened to Mr. Turtle!"
"It his stupid fault he got stuck in the toilet!"
"Dudley! What did I tell you about lying?" Petunia scolded. "You know very well that Mr. Turtle could not have climbed into the toilet."
"Mom! You're always taking Harriet's side!"
Harriet smiled thankfully at her adopted mother. As they passed the calendar in the Leaky Cauldron, the date suddenly rebounded into her memory. "Mother! We totally forgot about getting the things for my birthday party!"
"My goodness, you're right. We'll have to move quickly if we are to get the party hats and such today and still pick up Father in time." Petunia rushed them back to the car and off they drove.
