Birthday Boom!

-

"Mother! Where's my new blouse?" Harriet shouted out her bedroom door.

"It's hanging in the laundry room!" Petunia shouted.

Dudley and Piers just looked at each other while they played their game on the TV. "Time to leave yet?" Dudley asked, almost pleading.

"I don't have any games at my place. You know that. We'll have to go to the park or something," Piers explained again.

The doorbell rang. From the kitchen, Petunia shouted, "Dudley get the door!"

Waddling over to the door, Dudley opened it to find his worst fears materialized. Peggy and Suzan, in the flesh.

"Oh, it's you. Heya, Lardbucket," Suzan said by way of greeting. She roughly shoved past him. "Come on, Peggy! Oh, hello Mrs. Dursley! I heard that we are going to the zoo today?" She pointedly turned her red hair to block her view of Harriet's huge cousin.

"Suzan! I can't believe you. Hello, Dudley. Hello, Mrs. Dursley!" Peggy had very dark hair, almost matching Harriet's color. She was always envious of Harriet's eyes though. Such a bright green, in comparison to her own brown ones.

"Uh, Mom! I'm going over to Piers for the day!" Dudley shouted. He hated that he couldn't hit girls. Harriet had gotten him into a lot of trouble at school the first time he tried to beat her up. "Come on!" Dudley said roughly, gabbing his friend and dragging him away from the game.

"Have a good day, dear!" Petunia called.

"Mario!" Suzan squealed as she put in a different game into Dudley's game system.

"You are such a gamer girl!" Peggy groused. That didn't stop her from plopping down and grabbing the other controller.

"Harriet! Your friends are here! Hurry up!" Petunia called upstairs.

Just a moment later, Harriet came trotting downstairs. She was wearing a new blouse and skirt! "Peggy! Suzan! This is going to be so great!" Harriet sprawled out over the couch, gabbing with her best friends.

"Come along girls! The cabbie is here to take us to the tube!" Petunia had to use a bit of force to extract Suzan from the video game. The ride to the tube station was fairly short, and in just a short while they were on their way to the London Zoo.

"So you wanted to go here after Dudley's birthday? That's pretty silly, Harriet!" Peggy said as she chewed on some gum while reading a romance novel. She was leaned back on bench as the subway rolled on.

"I've never been to the zoo, and it sounded like fun!" Harriet protested.

"There's like tons of creepy crawlies! OOOOH!" Suzan shuddered theatrically.

"Maybe they'll let you keep one as a pet?" the adopted Dursley said with a giggle.

"Ewww! That's just gross!"

"Here's our stop, girls! No funny business! Here me?" Petunia called out as she herded the girls off the subway.

In the zoo they went from area to area. The tigers and lions were a big hit with the girls, while only Harriet thought the spiders were cool. In the snake house, Suzan thought that they were too 'slimy' and 'icky'. All the girls just had to laugh at that silliness.

Harriet turned to look for Peggy, but couldn't see here anywhere. "Hey, Suzan? Where'd Peggy go?"

"The loo?" Suzan said with a shrug.

"Mother? Have you seen Peggy?" Harriet called out.

Petunia looked up from her book. "No, honey. Let's go find her!" She stood up and started to wander the darker corners looking for the lost girl.

Just a few frustrating minutes later, after checking the girl's bathroom, Harriet was getting quite frustrated. She looked over at one the snakes. "I wish you could tell me where she went off to," she groused.

The snake gave her a look as if to say, but I do know where she went. That scruffy fellow dragged her off to the cleaning supply room.

Harriet just gave the snake a startled look. And then asked, "What did you say?"

The janitor's supply room. Right over there. Behind the concealed door, it seemed to hiss, pointing with its nose.

"Harriet! You were hissing at that snake," Suzan squeaked out.

"The snake said that man dragged her over to a hidden room!" the young girl shouted. "Where's my mother?"

"She went to find someone in charge." The redhead was looking a bit worried. "Someone grabbed her? We should get a Bobby!"

Harriet had found the door to the store room and tried to open it. It only rattled.

"Help! Someone!" came the muffled voice of Peggy.

"Shut it," rasped a man. "No one knows you are here."

"Peggy! PEGGY!" Harriet howled. Suddenly the door smashed open even as all the snakes started hissing loudly.

"Bloody hell! Don't you come one step closer, you! Just turn around and nothing bad will happen." A rough man that looked like he could be the poster-boy for all axe murderers had a knife up to Peggy's throat.

"PEGGY!" Harriet shouted again as the light seemed to glint off the knife.
