"Hey, Ran-chan," Ryouga said, coming forward. "Are you okay?"
"I don't know," Ranma said in a voice that wasn't scared as she gripped the clothwrapped Katana on her back. Nope, not scared at all.
"The evil must be stronger than I thought," Kuno declared. "For my gaijin beauty is not yet rushing into my arms!"
"Dry up and die!" Ryouga shouted, smashing Kuno into the stratosphere. Then he took Ranma by the shoulders and shook her gently.
"Hey are you okay?" Ryouga asked.
"Yeah," Ranma said. Then she breathed a sigh of relief. "Must have been a dud."
"Come on," Ryouga said. "Cologne should have look at you."
And they left, not noticing there was no Akane-bitch tied up to the leash law sign, not noticing that the cafe they were leaving WASN'T the Magic Cafe. For, after all, to their knowledge such things had never been.
Ranma hesitated a moment.
"Wait," Ranma said. "Cologne-sensai's going to know that we've...uh...you know."
"How?" Ryouga asked.
"I don't know how," Ranma said. "She'll just know somehow...and then she'll tell my mom and then..." She shivered.
"It's not like she'll cast you out clan, Ranma," Ryouga said. Ranma gave him a doubtful look. "She did the same thing when she had you, didn't she?" That same doubtful look, a little weaker.
"She'll be disappointed," Ranma warned. Her mother wanted her to be BETTER than she was...in ALL ways.
"Is that more important than your life?" Ryouga asked. "We have to go just to make sure you don't spontaneously change into something, you know?" Ranma nodded reluctantly.
"Fine, fine..." Ranma said. "Let's go to Cologne-sensai's."
Of course, the pill had already done its work. Everything had changed, the hero or heroine rather, remained to save the day.
Ranma's mother, Nodoka Kamiya, had fallen in love (or at least in lust, she was unclear on the situation) with an American visiting Japan some eighteen or twenty years previously.
The American had vanished soon afterward, (another matter which Nodoka was vague on) but not before there was issue to their union. Ranma Kamiya was born not long after the man's disappearance.
As she was ruined for marriage, Nodoka decided to take her daughter on a training journey to teach her both the family arts. As she had been the chosen inheritor of the hiten this generation, so would her daughter. In this manner the techniques would not die should the need come for them.
It must be noted that her family were willing to support her, but she had made up her mind. Honor had always been important to her, and with Ranma being half-gaijin, she would need to be tough to handle life.
Oh yes, as a side note, it should be noted that Genma Saotome was apparently born around the same time as Ranma and is developing to be a great feminist.
((AN: These Red Rover/Spells R'Us threads give a great jump off point for new stories...and the whole retroactive magic thing is GREAT for clearing away anything too weird from previous threads so you can basically start fresh.
(yes...another Gold Digger...sorry, there aren't many appropriately aged black heros to choose from...even this advances GD about five or ten years)
