The open Sailor Communicator was hidden in between two cushions where it sent out the story that had shocked Ami into immobility.
Not noticing, or not caring, the two continued their mother-daughter talk.
"You were a magical girl?" Ami asked. "Cutey Alchemist?!"
"Oh yes," said Dr. Mizuno. "Ah, those were the days. Mind you in MY day we had really tough opponents. Even the minor minions had at least two levels of damage resistance. Oh, and the boss monsters. VERY difficult fights."
"'Pretty Alchemist?'" repeated Ami.
"I had some pretty effective attacks and defensive manuevers," confided the physician. "Mostly in the form of potion bombs. I only started out with Mist Of Concealment, but as I leveled up I gained attacks like Circle Of Containment and Healing Potion and Boom-Boom. One of your team-mates' mother was one of my team-mates."
"AHK!" said Ami, making a warding gesture.
"Yes, it was Makoto Kino," continued Doctor Mizuno. "Her mother Atsuko was Graceful Monk."
"'Graceful Monk'?" repeated Ami, twitching slightly.
"Well, now you know why I wanted you to have a bodyguard," said the physician, sitting down now. "Some of the old villains we fought we never did account for. We assumed back then that Glitter-Rock was killed off for his failures by Dark General Motorhead. Lounge Lizard fell into that concrete and we think that killed him. And we're pretty sure Disco is dead, but he might make a comeback."
"Eep," said Ami.
"Of course we had our magic brooms so we could fly places, our transformation pendants, our wands for conjuring, and our individual Weapons Of Power." Kumori Mizuno sighted down her arm as if imagining her old weapon was in her hand. "Oh, and our instruments of course. I played keyboard, of course. So what kind of attacks and equipment do you have?"
"My mom was a magical girl?!" Makoto asked as she stared at the communicator.
"A 'graceful monk'?" asked Minako.
"Shhhh," shhhed Rei. "They're still talking."
