Chained World-Yojimbo: Like daughter, like mother? [Episode 118925]

by Kestral

Kumori Mizuno listened carefully. She knew that Ranma would not lie to her - at least not directly. This fit the yoma, this fit a few nagging details of late. "I see. Girls, I think you ought to go home for now. I wish to speak with my daughter."

"I'll go check my weapons, the layout of the building, and security issues," said Ranma, loading up weaponry again.

Ami sat there, perspiring heavily.

Her mother paced back and forth briefly. "Well, I suppose this was inevitable."

Ami blinked a couple of times. She was a chessmaster, used to formulating out dozens of potential moves and strategies as she went. This was not a reaction she had expected.

"I remember when I was younger..." Doctor Mizuno's voice trailed off as she looked out the window.

"What?" asked Ami, not making any connection here.

For an answer, Ami's mother reached out and seemed to pull some object out of midair. "Well, what do you know? I've still got this after all these years."

Ami stared at the brooch. A particularly tacky piece of costume jewelry?

"Beauty and Love, Peace and Prosperity!" proclaimed Ami's mother, holding the brooch up. Starlight seemed to shine down on it from somewhere in a shimmering soft glow. "Prosperity Power! Rock... ON!"

Ami's jaw dropped as her mother was suddenly surrounded by a psychadelic color wash and when it cleared... her mother was dressed in a leather mini-skirt, halter top with vest, had a peaked hat on her head and a broom in one hand.

"Soldier of Love and Peace - Cutey Alchemist!" Ami's bizarrely dressed mother made a gesture with her broom, turning it into an elaborate wand. "Fighting for love, peace, and rock and roll!"

"Gakkk!" said Ami, wondering if she'd be doing this when she was middle-aged.

"Hmmm, the outfit fit me a lot better when I was fourteen," complained the doctor. "Having kids really takes its toll on you, and the old magical uniform sure shows it."

"Gikk!" said Ami.

"Ah yes, I remember when I was younger," said the Doctor, her voice wistfully nostalgic. "Off with my friends to save the universe again, fighting opponents like Death Walker and Lord Soth."

"Gurk," managed Ami.

"Is it that hard to believe I was young once?" Ami's mother sniffed. "A member of a sentai team of magical girls who saved the world and doubled as a pop-rock band? I and my friends opened for an Aerosmith concert back in the early seventies you know."

"GAK!" Ami was suffering from severe mental shutdown by this point.

"You don't believe me?" Cutey Alchemist asked while thoughtfully tapping her wand. "I remember it all just like it was a flashback."

"Pretty Archer! Elegant Kensai!" Cutey Alchemist stooped down to check on her fallen comrades.

Buxom Witch shook her fist at their opponent. "For striking them down in such an underhanded manner - I cannot forgive you!"

"Big flat flaming deal," said the monster, swelling up to five times human size. "You are just a bunch of Junior High School students in silly costumes. (Even if you are extremely endowed for your age.) I am Lord Spaghetti Soth - five hundred years old undead lord of destruction. I will destroy all of you and then YOUR WORLD!"

"Arf arf!" protested their magical mascot, Rex The Wonder Dog.

"AND YOUR LITTLE DOG TOO!" added Lord Soth, increasing to kaiju size.

"Buxom Witch!" said the recovering Pretty Archer as she was helped up by Cutey Alchemist.

"Buxom Witch!" said the barely able to stand Elegant Kensai.

Graceful Monk slapped her gloved fist into her gloved hand. "We'll need the giant robot for this one!"

"SUMMON BAHAMUT MECHA!" called out the six magical girls, brandishing their items of power.

"Arf Arf!" agreed Rex, his eyes glowing like a planetary defense cannon.

"'Bahamut Mecha'?!" asked Ami, wondering why she didn't get a giant robot.

"Oh yes, the last weapon produced by the Magical Kingdom before it had fallen - I was the one who ran the targetting computer and sensor feeds," said Ami's mother with a little smile on her face. "You'll have to show me your mecha, dear. Now where was I? Oh yes."

"Ahhhhhh!" cried out the six magical girls as their mecha was slammed repeatedly by a giant mace.

"Systems down across the board, we haven't been able to repair the damage from the last fight and the self-healing systems are still offline!" said Cutey Alchemist.

"We'll have to use the Buster!" Elegant Kensai said, one hand holding her side and ignoring the thin trail of blood coming from her mouth.

"But that'll..." Cutey Alchemist stared at the screen showing Elegant Kensai, then at Pretty Archer. They knew. Both of the injured warriors nodded. "I understand. Initiating Buster manuever!"

"The 'Buster'?" asked Ami.

"The power of six magical girls, Rex, and the full output of Bahamut - a single attack so powerful that space and time themselves cease to exist at the point of release," said Cutey Alchemist, slowly fading back to her civilian identity. "After that, we drifted apart. Rex and the Mecha were gone, recalled to subspace now that the last menace was put down. Elegant Kensai and Pretty Archer were gone, and everyone wanted time to deal with the loss of those two. I went on to medical school and by the time I finished I'd quite lost track of everyone. Buxom Witch was the last I'd heard from, and she was off marrying some wandering martial artist type. I think Elegant Monk went to some place in the U.S. called Lake Geneva and is working for a company that makes games. Eventually I met your father."

"My mother was a magical girl?" asked Ami, apparently aiming her question at her knees.
