There were some, Hiroshi and Daisuke being prime examples, who viewed Ranma's life with envy and imagined he did all sorts of interesting things with the girls in his life. Nevermind that Ranma would probably scream out something about cooties and run off if he ever got kissed. This crowd consisted of hormonally addled teenagers (and a few adults) who saw everything in terms of sex. This crowd, predictably, wanted to know if Ranma had sampled either girl in carnal fashion, what their measurements were, turn-ons, and so on.
There was a second group that didn't like Ranma much, but thought of him as a pathetic monomaniac who might have a certain charm - but that it was outweighed by an ego the size of Mount Fuji and all the social grace of a pregnant yak. Most of these were other girls in the class and they wondered why Ranma Saotome had such a following. What had these girls done to deserve such a fate?
The third of this group wanted to know more about these two girls because it would affect certain bets around the school.
Of course the message was being spread even further by people who had been under Nabiki, but as she was missing they were currently running on their own initiative.
Which is why some of the rumors were so far out there that they weren't even in the same ballpark.
These two new fiancees were from Germany and Iceland.
The pale new fiancee was a robot.
The redheaded new fiancee was a German Amazon from a German Amazon Tribe located in the Black Forest region. She was engaged to him because she touched his schnitzel.
The pale new fiancee was a sorceress from Russia.
The pale new fiancee was a vampire.
The redheaded fiancee was an oni.
The redheaded fiancee was actually Ranma's cousin, and Ranma's tree is a little short on some of the branches.
Ranma's father had engaged Ranma to half of Japan and was working on the other half. That was why he'd gotten Ranma cursed.
When you factored in this newest revelation on the school nurse, the rumor mill began getting even weirder.
Ranma's father had engaged Ranma to half the civilized world.
Ranma's mother had some weird ideas on Ranma being 'manly' and how he had to be engaged to 1001 girls or she'd pull a 'Red Queen' and off with his head.
Ranma had that nekoken split identity thing going. His father had one too, except it was even more stupid and annoying and responsible for all this.
The school nurse was planning on giving Ranma a FULL (wink wink nudge nudge) physical.
Ranma was actually the prince of some foreign secret land and he had all these engagements because it was the custom of that land, and the virility of the sovereign was tied directly to the fertility of the land.
The school nurse and the two new girls were actually magical girls in disguise, here to fight off some intergalactic evil.
It got worse, the more removed the speaker was from the event.
Of course, the missing Nabiki was not neglected in these twisted tales.
Nabiki was missing because she had tried to extort money from a Yakuza lord.
Nabiki was missing because Shampoo had her tied up at the Nekohanten after Nabiki had commented one too many times about Shampoo's lack of smarts.
Nabiki was missing because she accidently dropped ten yen off the side of a boat and she'd drowned trying to reclaim it.
Nabiki was missing because she was caught peddling pornography and was currently sitting in a jail cell.
Ranma missed most of it, only hearing the tail end of comments as those spreading the tales quickly dropped the subject when one of the subjects was present. He only heard enough to make him wonder what was with some people.
Rei and Asuka heard enough. Rei was her usual calm self, only raising an eyebrow at the idea of herself being a vampire. Asuka was a little more energetic in her rebuttal of the concept.
At the end of the school day, things got stranger:
