Shifted History: Sharing Spaces [Episode 124146]

by Kender

If nothing else, Misato had long been self sufficent. She might act wild and crazy at times, but she was perfectly responsible about the important things, and got them done even if she tended to complain about the work. Having lost all the family that she truly knew about, she'd grown to take care of herself, and had learned how to handle things on her own. As a 'military brat' she'd become something of a tomboy, more likely to go out and 'hang with the guys', rather than have any need for frilly things.

And she liked it that way, even if she had one little problem at the moment.

Despite having no problem with living on the base, and having her mother's old friends be her semi-surrogate parents was okay, but she was still living by herself off of a military base. The officials had no problems with this as they didn't want her being lost into some sort of system, as she'd had only them to rely on. Of course, she could have been adopted by one of the officers, but she didn't want that. So, they did the best that they could to keep her from living in isolation.

They gave her a room-mate by the name of Rei Ayanami.

Unfortunately, they might as well have left her alone. Rei was simply a total introvert as far as she could tell. The girl looked nice enough, but she didn't talk unless she had to, didn't have much in the way of interests, and actually seemed to cook worse than Misato. Since the last member of the Katsuragi clan's menu tended to include only MREs and instant ramen, that wasn't exactly the sort of distinction that many girls would have liked.

Not that it looked like Rei minded, but then, she didn't seem to care about much. Whether it was shyness, a lack of social skills, or simply a disinterest in such things, she hadn't shown much desire to go out and do things. On the upside, she only had to tell her room-mate about something, such as a chore that needed to be done, and she always remembered. Misato did try to get her involved in something, but she'd never quite managed to crack the blue haired girl's shell.

She supposed that it was due to the other girl's history. When they'd been made room-mates, she'd been told that the girl was an orphan just like her, but had gone through some 'rough times'. Just what that meant, she didn't know, but if that was how she'd defended herself, it had to be bad.

Still, she had plenty to do, and goals to fulfill, so she wasn't about to let the other girl's quietness get her down. There was a future for her, and she planned on taking it for her.

And they didn't include lying, lecherous and egotistical ex-boyfriends like that jerk Kaji. What ever she'd seen in him, she couldn't see now, but she was sure that she'd never get involved with someone like him ever again. After all, what girl needed a guy who not only hit on her friends, but on their teachers, and any other attractive female?

She had better things to do than to be involved with that while:
