New Pluto: Job Benefits [Episode 124583]

by Kestral

The new form was not as Ranma remembered it. Not a short busty redhead who looked cute but fiesty.

He had met seven other Ranma Saotome during the time storm. As he had stared into the Garnet Orb and glimpsed Everything. He knew the memories of these other time-displaced Ranma would fade, but for now he knew many details of their past and how choices made in his past could have produced a very different him.

In a world where superheroes fought menaces ranging from annoying single-gimmick supervillains to Menaces From Beyond, his father had sought a powerful version of the Catfist in a temple near Bubastis in Egypt. Five year old Ranma had wandered into a hole only big enough for a large cat, and when he'd come out he'd been a werecat. Werecat Ranma had been a champion of Bastet, with the ability to transform into a large cat or a hybrid cat-person form. He had fought alongside, and sometimes against, heroes of Japan and of the Western world. He was a somewhat mischievous, sometimes playful, sometimes deadly, hunter.

From Werecat Ranma, Sailor Pluto had the ability to turn into a catgirl during the full moon. Enhanced senses, claws, and the ability to speak to all felines (though frankly they weren't great conversationalists) would manifest while transformed to Catgirl Pluto.

One Ranma had been crippled in the Nekoken training, run over by a truck while thinking he was a cat. Abandoned by his family and forced to live on his own, Ranma had turned to a different battleground and become a scholar - then eventually a scientist. While his legs were useless, his mind was sharp and precisely focussed. Scientist Ranma was working on bionics technology, and hoped to find a replacement neural tissue that could help others in similar situations.

From Scientist Ranma, Sailor Pluto gained knowledge of several sciences and knew of gadgets she could build that could be of assistance in the future.

Another Ranma was a masked adventurer, following in the tradition of the somewhat eccentric Hidden Temple his father had dropped him off at when he was younger. Wandering martial artist, trouble shooter, bandit beater, shih, and practitioner of an ancient system of martial arts that had been upgraded a few times since its founding. His primary job was wandering the world while opposing the ancient Order Of Tiamat, an assassin cult who was the force behind several criminal organizations in his world.

Sailor Pluto was very resistant to mind control, possession, corruption, or other outside influences as a result of Masked Adventurer Ranma's contribution.

The fourth "other Ranma" had been one of the two bad apples in the bunch. Genma's debts had ended up with his son sold to the Yakuza. The Yakuza Ranma had been a tough enforcer, cold and merciless, harsh and violent. His martial arts studies had been encouraged and he was skilled in many other things as well - yet he was about as friendly as a rock and as forgiving as an inferno. Someone who knew him had once said that he had a 'Soul Of Ice' and the name stuck.

From Yakuza Ranma, Sailor Pluto gained knowledge of Tokyo's underside and a small measure of that coldness.

Fifth of seven, there was the Shinobi Ranma. Chunin of the Saotome Clan and heir to the secret style and talents of his clan. A strong fighter sworn to the service of the Imperial family itself, it was his duty and honor to seek out and eliminate threats to the safety of the populace.

From the shinobi, Sailor Pluto gained some tendency towards being silent and deadly. Less brag, more sneak.

Sixth was the Shukenja who went simply by the name Ranma. This Ranma had gone through the training under Genma, however - Jusenkyo had come when Ranma was only five years old. Ranma had been separated from Genma during his studies in the mystical arts, which had originally been to try and find a cure for the curse. When Ranma was sixteen he had become a member of the White Council and eventually contacted as a "go to" person whenever supernatural nastiness was rearing its head.

From the Shukenja came knowledge of a style of magic, of magic circles and ofuda, and of onmyou magic.

Then there was the seventh of seven, a Ranma who was:
