Luna sighed, noticing her charge's low mood. "You should relax, dear," the small feline soothed. "You're still linked to your powers, aren't you?"
The once and future princess nodded morosely. "Yeah," she moaned, "but if I suit-up, will the disguise effect make me unrecognizable?" She drew her wings tighter around her. "If I were like Mina-chan, maybe. But with these wings..."
As they were too close to the house, the little black Mausian could only bob her head. Luna watched as Usagi reached into the backpack and brought out her keys.
Just as the felinoid warrior of Love and Justice was about to unlock the portal, the knob was yanked from her grip. Standing there, sillouetted by the light of the entryway, was her mother. The woman's hair was in disarray and she was panting heavily. "Who the hell are you, bitch!' the elder woman snarled. "Some little slut, here to try and get my Shingo?"
Usagi backpedalled, raising her arms slightly in surprise. "Momma?" she gasped.
Ikoku's eys widened marginally. "What in the name of Kami-Sama were you thinking, Usagi?" she gasped, then turned her glare on even harder. "You're going to march your fucking ass down there and get it undone, do you hear me? I will not have my sweet daughter turn into some kuronin neko-slut."
Under their fur, both the cats blanched. "But momma," the teenaged Splicer cried, "the clinic was destroyed!"
Ikoku snapped into a rage. "Then live on the streets, you fucking animal!" she screetched. "Until you can show up here as a normal girl, I don't want to see your fucking face here again!" She whirled around, snatched the keyring from the knob, broke the key and hurled the remaining ring to the ground.
As the young blond sank to her haunches, she heard a small male voice whisper her name.
She looked up, and stared directly into her brother's sparkling blue eyes. The young boy appeared to have been crying, but gave her a wan smile. "Mom's just really pissed," he confided in a whisper. "Dad left a note this morning that he was dumping Mom to live with a fox-woman he met at work. Maybe she'll let you come back home soon."
Usagi was about to hug her sometimes-annoying little brother, when the voice of their mother rang out. "Shingo! Get your little ass away from that tramp and get back inside! NOW!"
The preteen boy gave her a sad look turned away. "I'll try to talk with Mom, okay?" she said quietly as he walked back into the house. As he entered, the door was slammed shut and locked behind him.
Usagi picked up her keyring and stumbled into a run, heading away from what had once been a happy home.
