Turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic. The taxation of trade routes is currently in dispute. It is during this time that, in a desperate move, the Zeon Trade Federation places a blockade of starships around the peaceful planet of Naboo, cutting off all trading and traveling to and from the planet.
The Senate, bogged down in procedures and indecisiveness, is unable to aide Queen Amedala, Naboo’s currently elected ruler in this crisis. However, her pleas, for help through Senetor Scirocco do not go unanswered. Supreme Chancellor Valorum secretly sends two Jedi knights, the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, as his ambassadors to seek audience with Federation viceroys Nute Gunray and Degwin Zabi and bring an end to this senseless conflict...
Exiting hyperspace, a Republic space cruiser began reducing speed as it approached the numerous Mobile Doll Control Ships that formed a great blockade, separating the cruiser and the planet of Naboo. On the bridge, two figures cloaked in brown robes stood behind the ship’s captain and first mate, looking out at the Control Ships as they headed for them at a safe speed so as to not alarm the Zeon Trade Federation.
One of the cloaked figures, in a slightly old, yet wizened voice, spoke. “Captain, tell them we wish to come aboard.”
With a nod, the captain toggled a communications switch, opening a channel between the cruiser and the Control Ships. “With all due respect,” she stated, “the ambassadors form the Supreme Chancellor wish to come aboard.”
Seconds later, a viewing screen opened, showing an image of a Nemodian; Nute Gunray, one of the viceroys. The green-skinned, red-eyed alien smiled as he spoke. “Yes, of course they may board my ship. As you know, our blockade is perfectly legal. We would not to anything that would upset the Senate. My ship is straight ahead of you. Please continue on forward.”
After the image faded, the first cloaked man turned to the other. “You see? These Trade Federation types are cowards. The negotiations will be short.”
The second figure did not take his eyes off the Control Ship as it grew closer. “Perhaps we should have brought our mobile suits.”
Hidden under his hood, Qui-Gon Jinn raised an eyebrow. “Remember what Master Yoda said, Obi-Wan; our mobile suits are to be used only as a last resort. Much like our lightsabers.”
Obi-Wan Kenobi bowed apologetically. “I am sorry, master. But I have a bad feeling about all of this. I sense an outside force behind this blockade. Something elsewhere, elusive.”
“Please concentrate on the here and now, Padiwan. I know Master Yoda always taught you to be mindful of your feelings as a Newtype, but he did not mean at the expense of the moment. Anything could, and might, happen.”
Degwin Zabi rushed onto the bridge, cold sweat dripping down his forehead. “Nute, we have a great problem!”
“Calm yourself, Zabi,” Nute replied, not even looking at his partner. “I know the ambassadors are here.”
“That’s just it! I spoke to the droid that escorted them to one of the meeting rooms. They are Jedi.”
This made Nute turn to face Degwin. “What did you say?!”
“Jedi! Newtypes! Here, on this ship! No doubt, they’ve come to reach a settlement.”
Nute put a finger to his chin, trying to think quickly. “We must contact Lord Sidious at once. Send a droid to distract the Jedi, quickly! You there! Open a channel to Darth Sidious at once!”
“Yes sir,” replied an electronic voice from one of the Nemodian technicians as it punched in a series of numbers. Within seconds, a life-sized hologram of a dark, cloaked figure appeared before the viceroys.
Nute gave a quick bow towards the hologram. “Please forgive the interruption, my lord-.”
“You are fortunate,” Darth Sidious said sinisterly, “That I was about to contact you on your progress. What is it, viceroy?”
“There are two Jedi here,” Degwin answered for Nute, still slightly panicking. “The Chancellor sent them here to reach a settlement.”
“I see. This could hinder our schedule drastically.”
Nute then quickly said, “My lord, our Zakus are ready and our ships ready to begin the invasion of the planet. With your permission, of course.”
Sidious gave a slight smile. “Very good, Gunray. Begin landing your suits immediately; I will make it legal so that the Senate does not take any immediate action.”
“And the Jedi, Lord Sidious?”
The smile faded from the Sith Lord's face at the mention of the Jedi. “The Chancellor should not have involved them in this. Kill them!”
