Having them there had actually given him a bit of peace, and a warm feeling. Not that he could identify it, but it was good to see that they'd settled in. It was almost... a family, with him training with his pop, Usagi combing Rei's hair and Makoto managing to find ways to even make travel rations seem appealing. He might have started with less than a clue about how to handle things, but he was pleased with how they were working out.
That was until the moment a courier had delivered an envelope to him. Since he'd never really gotten mail, save for a challenge letter or an announcement for a contest, that was surprising. He'd worried that he was getting into trouble, and he hoped that he wasn't too far in over his head. As it was, he'd recognised what could happen if he wound up getting arrested or something like that. So he'd opened the envelope and read the letter inside, wondering what had happened.
It took him four tries to even register what he was reading.
"WHAT THE HELL?!" he yelled as the implications of what he'd just been informed of sank in.
Genma's face fell into a scowl. "What is it, boy?"
"They're givin' me another slave!"
"They are? I hope that she'd be useful..."
"She's a doctor, Pop..," Ranma muttered.
"Oh. That's good.
"And she's Ami's mom!"
"She is..."
"The parent of a friend of my slaves!"
"Hmm..," the elder Saotome murmured as he considered this development. While he wasn't ecstatic that his son had gained another burden on their situation, he was pleased that this time he'd gotten someone useful. If this woman was a doctor, then her skills would make for an impressive selling point. And even if they didn't sell her, she'd be useful in other ways. She'd be free medical care, and could work so that they could have a place to stay that actually had a roof. His bones were old, and he needed his rest.
Usagi heard what was said, but had stopped in mid-brush stroke. She remembered her call, and wondered if she'd caused this. It hadn't been her intention to get Mrs. Mizuno enslaved, and the idea that she had was surprising. Hopefully they would have the same ease in the situation that they did now, but she couldn't figure out why this was going on.
Her owner, on the other hand, was falling into numbness. He'd just been getting used to his current situation, and was falling almost into an easy routine, but this was certainly going to disrupt things. Almost as soon as his shock had worn off, he'd begun to consider what had happened. It was too wierd for words, as he'd never thought that he'd have a slave that was older than himself. Of course, until recently, he hadn't thought that he'd have any slaves, but this was slightly different. Sure he'd heard a lot of stories where a teenaged boy would get an attractive older woman as a slave, and amongst the boys in the locker room, those sorts were held in near reverence, as the idea of having that sort power over someone who'd normally be in charge was inspiring to a hormone driven guy. There had even been one or two of them he'd met.
However, this time it was him getting the adult slave. Sure, if she looked like her daughter, she'd be attractive enough to him, but he wasn't sure of what to do even if that was the case. He couldn't even bring himself to figure out what he'd do if she wanted to be bedded by him like the others had. Heck, he couldn't even understand what was going on, as he was too shocked to understand how this could happen.
All he could do was hope that this wasn't going to be a disaster while:
