It should have been obvious to her that if she manipulated some of the greatest minds of the planet to achieve her goals she would eventually be found out.
Perhaps having stood for aeons separated from her fellow humans had made her come to look down on them; perhaps having successfully bested the greatest detective in the guise of Irene Adler had led her to throw caution in the wind; or it might have been that being able to manipulate even fellow immortals in her quest had made her underestimate the people she used. Whatever her reasons had been Setsuna had come to be careless in covering her tracks in the last decades before the birth of her princess. And with her conceited selection of targets for her breeding programme it had only been a matter of time until some of the smarter victims of her campaign would becomes aware of her game.
Lesser men upon discovering that they had been used would have been tempted to seek to destroy what Setsuna had wrought out of pique. But it was no lesser man who discovered that sinister manipulations had resulted in him unknowingly having become a father and grandfather. It was Doctor Clark Savage Jr.!
Doc Savage was a man not just smart enough to discover the truth carefully hidden by Setsuna but also to able to guess at her motives with the vast powers of his intellect.
He managed to deduce from the various persons Setsuna had chosen to include into the family tree, that whatever her means were her motives must have been pure. One does not breed a super-villain with a genealogy of heroes.
And so Doc Savage put aside his wounded ego and his ill will towards the unknown manipulator and embraced his newest relatives into his heart. He overcame his own personal misgivings and set out to train his grandchild like he had once been trained by his own father.
He did not know for what reason the progeny had been breed by that shadowy hand whose influence he could trace back for centuries in her family tree, but he could tell that the lines were converging and that the ultimate purpose was at hand. Whatever enormous task she would have to fulfill Doc Savage would see to it that young Usagi would have all the training and instruction he could give her.
