Shinji Ikari groaned as awoke. Man what was a wild dream.
He slowly cracked his eyes, and low and behold he saw Rei’s smiling face. Her read eyes gazing lovingly at him.
It… was not a dream.
“Ah… good morning, Rei…”
“Good morning, Shinji,” she replied happily.
Shinji nodded. He looked at the girl, full of confusion. So what was the nature of their relationship? What was he to her. He asked before but he guessed she was “too busy” to reply. She DID kind of have her mouth full… He blushed at that last thought.
"Does this mean, that you are my girlfriend now?" he asked.
She paused and shook her head with a knowing smile. “I prefer the word, ‘Lover’. What is a girlfriend? A girl who is a friend? It is juvenile. Lover is much more accurate and descriptive a phrase. One who you love, one with whom you make love. Don’t you agree, Shinji?”
He blinked. Okay, that was… deep.
“So, do you want to go on dates or something?”
She paused. “While I do enjoy your company…” he paused, “And I desire it greatly, I do not feel ‘dating’ is unnecessary... we can skip the pretences and have sex instead. Is that not what the objective of a date is?
He shrugged. “Well… it is just seeing each other and doing something interesting… and while… this is nice, it just might get kind of… shallow.”
She shrugged. “Okay, that sounds acceptable… we will date.”
Slowly he stood up and groaned. “Man… I am so sore.”
“I am too Shinji,” she replied. “I think I will have problems walking.”
Slowly he began toward the shower. Rei stood up, and with a wince she began forward.
“What are you doing?” Shinji asked.
“Taking a shower,” she replied.
“So you want first shower?”
“No.”
“Then what?”
She smiled and put her arms around him. “We will take it together.”
He grinned.
“Shinji, one more thing…”
“Yes Rei?”
“If you wish, we may have an open relationship…”
“A what?”
“A relationship where one or both may have involvement with others,” she paused, “If you find another girl you are attracted to, then I do not mind if you look at them, speak to them, and nor do I mind it you date and sleep with them. I do not intend to ‘shop around’, but you may.”
Shinji blushed brightly. “Wh-what?!”
“Just asked me if I approve of them first, and…” her voice became soft. “I don’t want you to leave me for another girl. I will share but don’t choose someone over me.”
He nodded slowly. “I’m not going to, Rei…”
She smiled. “Good. I love you.”
Shinji wrapped his arm around her and they walked of to a nice shower…
