Ranma used his skills to go over the apartment building from top to bottom, checking out stairwells and access points. Since he was having to deal with potential supernatural menaces, he was placing emphasis on fighting a retreat. If things that could teleport were part of the threat, he'd have to be able to keep out of sight. In a worse case scenario he'd be lugging an unconscious and wounded client along in such an instance.
He found three different methods of doing so. Then he went over them again from a different angle, fighting his way INTO the building.
During the course of his investigations he passed by Ami's friends sitting right outside the building listening to some communication device. They never looked up.
The problem was that the enemy's abilities were unknown. If he had more of an idea what they could do, he'd be able to figure out the angles more clearly. So far all he'd seen was one yoma, and not a particularly powerful one either.
Ranma then checked weapons and tools. Once he was satisfied, he returned to his client. Duty came first, just as with the samurai yojimbo from a previous era.
"You don't have a giant robot?" asked Doctor Mizuno. "What about magical vehicles?"
"Well, uhm, no," admitted Ami.
"Weapons Of Power?" asked the Doctor.
"I've got a Mercury Computer," tried Ami. "It has scanning capabilities and displays."
"Well, that's good at least," said Ami's mother. "No weapons though?"
"Ah, no." Ami fidgeted.
"No armor?" asked the physician.
"Not as such," admitted the daughter.
"I see," said Kumori. "Well, now I'm glad I made that deal with Saotome-san. You need a bodyguard more than I thought."
"Mother?" eeped Ami.
"He'll have to guard you in your sleep," said Kumori Mizuno. "Yoma typically attack at night when they're stronger."
"Erk?" erked Ami at the thought, expecially as it called to mind images that she immediately found uncomfortable.
"He can guard me in MY sleep anytime!"
"Somehow I guessed that, Minako-chan."
