Ranma found his treatment aboard the star-destroyer to be torture. “This is inhumane,” Ranma complained.
“Huff. Perhaps,” Vader agreed, “but it is necessary.”
“Why do I have to go through this again?”
“Huff. Explain it once again, Admiral Jarvin,” Vader instructed patiently.
Moff Jarvin bowed and repeated himself, “only by establishing a clear line of succession can we demonstrate the stability of a constitutional monarchy and prevent an insurgency from restoring power to a corrupt and ineffective aristocratic oligarchy. The rebels themselves are the scum of the universe – smugglers and terrorists associated with known crime syndicates. You will be hard pressed to find a more retched hive of villainy than among their ranks. Should they gain a foot hold once more we will see a return of, for example, the systematic slavery that the Empire fought so hard to abolish, including the exploitation, once again, of an entire race of cloned cannon fodder they will need to support their evil regime.
“This is why we need you to learn the history of the Empire, and the ‘Senate’ that preceded it. Those who fail to learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them!”
“I guess,” Ranma agreed most reluctantly. “But does it have to be like this?”
“We are only beginning your torture, I’m afraid,” Moff appologised. “We can only cover the basics right now; it will take considerable study to bring you up to the Empire’s education standards. But it will be important for you to have a broad overview of the state of the Empire. So let’s return to the Jedi.”
“They’re those guys who kidnapped children to raise in their religious cult, right?”
“Most succinctly put,” Moff agreed. “Fortunately that old religion is no more. However, there may well be extremists among the insurgence who seek to emulate it, and its methods. So, I’m sure you’ll appreciate the import of this lesson on their plotted attempt to assassination the Old Emperor in a bid to retain control over the Senate…”
