Kagome on a String: Discussion [Episode 127384]

by Wyrm

Mistress Kaede, the priestess of this village after her sister, approached the stranger with the intent to chew her out for being in the Inuyasha's forbidden forest and let her go with a stern warning never to be seen in the vicinity again, but as she got a good look at the fool, a young woman in her teens, she got to thinking otherwise. After all, it wasn't every day that she saw a face so much like her deceased sister's.

"Let me see your face," she said, lifting the girl's chin and bringing her only eye to examine her features closely. It wasn't as good as it was when she was younger, but Kaede's eye was still sharp enough to recognize that face. "So, trying to look like a clever one, are ye?" she asked, somewhat teasingly. Kagome narrowed her eyes at that. "You're her spitting image, though. My elder sister, Kikyou."

Kagome blinked. "Eh?"

"Tell me, dear..." began Mistress Kaede, "Do you have a staggered ring around each arm?"

Kagome's jaw dropped open in shock. "How... How did you know that??!!!" she sputtered. Mistress Kaede nodded her head, a satisfied look on her face.

In the comfort of Mistress Kaede's home, the aged village priestess told the tale of her elder sister, Kikyou, and how she died defending the village fifty years ago. Kaede glanced at Kagome, who wasn't eating the nice gruel she had prepared. "What's wrong? Not hungry?" she asked.

"Um..." Kagome began, "You think you could untie me?" She lifted her still-tied arms, flapping them up and down behind her back for emphasis.

"Hmm, I would think with the staggered rings around your arms that you would have the strength of a hundred men, like my sister did," murmured Kaede as she untied Kagome's arms.

Strength of a hundred men? Her sister was really freakishly strong? Kagome thought. Wait. Staggered rings around her arms? Freakishly strong? That sounds like a saber marionette, like me! Kagome thought about that a bit. Nahh... A saber marionette in the Sengoku Jidai? How ridiculous! It's hard enough keeping in good repair in the twentieth century!

Kagome began her meal. "Um, I don't suppose I'm in Tokyo anymore, am I?" she asked, somewhat timidly.

"'Tis the village of Edo," replied Kaede. "I have never heard of the name. Is that the place of your birth."

More like manufacture, thought Kagome. That brought up memories of a few years ago when she and Souta debated having the words 'Made in Tokyo' stamped on her butt. She stifled a giggle.

"Did I say something amusing, dear?"

"Er... no. Something you said triggered a funny memory, that's all," replied Kagome. "And I'm thinking I should be getting back there." But how do I get there? After all, it's not like I can hail a temporal taxi,
