So here Kagome was, a teenaged girl (or fair simulation of one) being yanked back by a gross centipede-woman thing threatening to eat her whole to get at some stupid rock called the Shikon no Tama. Under such circumstances, what would you do?
That's right! Blast the centipede-thing in the face with a burst of mystic power!
(What? You can't do that? Then you're screwed the next time a centipede-woman grabs you intent on eating you up!)
It should be noted that the dog-boy fusion whose ear-tails Kagome was clutching to keep from being dragged into Mistress Centipede's maw was also after the Shikon no Tama, and wasn't all that much more friendly than Mistress Centipede at the moment. This dog-boy, going by the name Inuyasha, would turn out to be much more important in Kagome's life.
It should also be noted that Mistress Centipede, the centipede-woman mentioned before, didn't take kindly to this treatment, but this is to be expected.
"ViLE thINg!" hissed Mistress Centipede, curling her lips away from her big teeth. She lunged at Kagome, biting into the girl's left flank.
*CLANG!*
Mistress Centipede was absolutely still as Kagome dropped from her jaws. Kagome landed limply on the ground, clutching her bloodied side. "Urrgh..." she groaned, watching the alert text scroll by her vision and felt the stabs of pain twinge in her pseudoflesh.
The mutant overgrown centipede just remained absolutely still in the position in which she had chomped down on Kagome's side. Finally, she turned, tears streaming down her eyes as a few flakes chipped off her teeth. "i-iiitAAAIIii noooOOO..." the monster whined in a kind of demonic voice (an effect ruined by the fact she was whining).
As Mistress Centipede writhed on the ground, complaining about how much her pearly whites hurt, all the village onlookers, as well as Inuyasha performed synchronized bigsweating.
Kagome drew herself into sitting on her knees. She already knew how much damage had been done to her side, but she felt compelled to do a visual check. As she expected, her pseudoflesh was torn and would probably take a long time to heal naturally, and probably not without scars. (What she wouldn't give to be in Grandpa's marionette shop right then.) The metal plates of her under-armor protected her truly vital hardware.
Odd, there was a metal panel on her side that had no apparent purpose...
*vrrr...* *ptoo!*
The metallic panel opened up to reveal a pinkish-purple jewel about the size of a ping-pong ball. Then the ball was ejected from the container, clicking to the ground a few feet away. Kagome stared at the round jewel, shifting her gaze back to the panel that was closing on her side, her face pale and her body trembling. And her eye twitching.
What am I, a gumball machine?!
"I knEW, i KNew, i KNEW yOU were HIdinG it!" said Mistress Centipede triumphantly as she dove for it.
"That jewel is MINE!" came Inuyasha's insistance. Kagome looked at him quizzically. "Give it to me!"
Kagome blinked again. It would probably be preferable to give this Shikon no Tama to the dog-boy, as it was very likely that Miss Centipede would use the thing for evil.
