Ranma, being Ranma, was having a rather simple thought process. Dead + Animal Spirit + Physical form = Ability to still train and more! He asked the Grim Reaper, "Please give me the forms for the Animal Spirits please." Normally Ranma wouldn't be quite so... polite, but he figured that since this was Death, and he was giving him a chance at a new life (or to resume his old one, sans being completely human), he decided that he was someone he could be polite to.
Death handed Ranma the papers, who took them with his free hand. Even though everyone thought he was a muscle-bound jock, in reality Ranma had had to hide a more intelligent side as, in his childhood, whenever he showed off his intelligence his pop would beat him on the head, hoping to cause him brain damage and become an easily manipulated fool. Mainly since he WAS intelligent he realized that this only happened when he DID show his intelligence, so he quickly decided to act more stupid. One of the things he did to act more intellectually challenged was to act like he would fall asleep in class during school, but in reality he would listen while pretending to be asleep (if his father found out he was paying attention there would be hell to pay, and even though he found it all interesting the Art was still his main chance to enjoy himself). Since Ranma was dead he figured he didn't have to hide his intellectual side with Death and as such scanned over the terms, quickly deciding that it was worth it.
After he finished reading it and came to his conclusion, Ranma told Death, "So, I signed my name on the dotted line and wrote the animal form I wanted next to it. Should I just give the papers back to you?"
