Ranma's Wish: Matching Make [Episode 128079]

by Kender

Bastet purred as she enjoyed playing matchmaker. "Yes, I think I'll just introduce you to Modi. One of Thor's kids. He's still single."

"He is?" Minako asked hopefully. "No girlfriends around him now? No old lovers in his background waiting to come in? No one he's betrothed to?"

"Well, he's not involved now, but he has had dates before."

"No bad habits, like drinking a lot? His ego out of control?"

"He does have a bit of a temper..."

"Oh. I'm sure that I can handle that."

"Right..."

The mortal blonde's gaze started searching the area around her. "Where is he?"

"Over here. Oh, Modi!"

One of the gods turned and looked at the Egyptian diety. "What do you want, Bastet?"

"Nothing to worry about. I simply want to introduce you to another guest."

"Is that so?"

"Yes, it is. Modi, son of Thor, meet Minako Aino, princess and Senshi of Venus."

"One of those girls, eh?" Modi muttered, and turned to look at the girl in question. "How do you do Miss Aino?"

"F... f... fine..," stammered the blonde.

"Is something wrong?"

"No... why..?"

"You seem afraid of me."

"Nuh-huh. You're tall."

"My family tends to be that way."

"And strong."

"I've always been proud of it."

"And you're as hot as a poker!" Minako chirped happily.

"What?"

"Ooohh... Sorry. My mouth's gotten away with a lot. But don't you worry! I'll try to keep it under lock and key."

"You're not making a lot of sense."

"I... That is..."

Though he was unused to such a situation, the god knew that he had to tread carefully. "What is wrong?"

"I... I'm not sure about how to do this! How do you tell a god that you think he's a real cute guy!"

"'Cute'?"

"I didn't say that out loud, did I?"

"I think you did."

"Oh man... I didn't want to just blab out the truth! Oh well, you seem to be a real nice guy. Could you just forget what I said..? Actually, it'd be terrible if you thought that I thought that you were ugly. Not that I do, but you'd get mad anyway. I'd have to work hard to calm you down, and tell you the truth. So it would be better if you remember that I think you're cute."

"Are you nervous?"

She gave him a sickly smile. "Is it that obvious?"

"You'd only have to put up a sign to be clearer."

"Oh man..."

"Tell you what. You just relax, and I promise that I'll do my best to let you know when you really do something wrong."

"You're not about to run away from me?"

"No, I'm not," Modi told her, "I'll stay as long as I need to."

"Great! Hey! Why don't you show me what's good to eat!"

Bastet watched as the blonde girl tugged the god along, leading him to the buffet tables. As she watched the two of them, she recalled that she'd brought them together with only a slight hope that anything would actually happen. If nothing else, Modi would have put some caution into the girl, and would have given something to think about when meeting other gods. Then again, it might have scared her off trying her romantic luck with a god, which in a lot of cases, would have been the safe bet.

Instead, Minako was pouting and Modi was bellowing a laugh of pure humor. Then he smiled at the mortal girl, and apparently was taking his time to show her that he wasn't being mean about it. In fact... he seemed to be almost... lighter as he walked around with her.

That just seemed to prove that even gods got miracles, not that there was a certainty about the staying power of the pair. For all they knew, they might be on the path to nothing. Still, things were definately looking up.

So Bastet was rather pleased with herself, and hoping that this would be an instance where she could show off her matchmaking skills while:
