The rain fell gently on Nerima, the cold drops falling over one and all. Including a pig-tailed girl being carried by a panda, a sight which very definitely was not being noticed by all the people who were certainly not glancing often as the pair passed. The rain was cold enough, however, to speed the girl towards consciousness.
The first sign the panda had that the girl had re-awakened was when an elbow slammed into the back of it's head repeatedly. It growfed in annoyance and reflected on the indignities it had to put up with from it's ungrateful son. The boy was becoming more insolent every day. Even now the boy's disgracefully high pitched voice was buzzing in it's ears as he forced the child to do his duty. How could he have raised such a dishonourable son? Truly the only way to get past the current problem, caused by the boy's lack of skill, was to get him married with a child on the way before they met Nodoka. It was as this thought passed through his head that his attention turned to the strange actions of the boy, who had stopped trying to elbow him. Thus the boy's next phrase rang loudly in his ears.
"Fine, take me ta meet this girl. She'll take one look at me an' throw us all back out in the rain. Then I can finally go back to China to get rid of this stupid curse."
The panda slowed as his son's words struck him like a bolt of lightning. He tuned out the boy's continued grumbling, he knew the boy wouldn't stay passive for long and was likely trying to lull him into a false sense of security. What if the boy was right? He shuddered as he imagined the consequences of such a thing. The boy had the innate Saotome charm but his current form could be a bit off-putting. Unless one of Tendo's daughters was a... but that wouldn't lead to children, or at least not until the girl had time for the Saotome charm to work on her. Damn it, he missed Nodoka, better to make a good first impression and have the boy actually be a boy. Then Tendo's daughters would fall over themselves to marry him. With that the panda turned around and headed towards a restaurant he remembered having passed not too long before.
Inside the Tendo household Soun was just laughing nervously after having told his daughters that he didn't know what Saotome's son was like when the phone rang. He quickly escaped to answer the phone and after a short talk came back to his daughters. "Girls, I have some bad news. Saotome and his son have been delayed by the rain so they won't be arriving until tomorrow if it doesn't let up soon. I know you must all be disappointed..."
