It was a dark and stormy night. The sky was split with lightning as rain beat against the window of the room.
The only other source of illumination in the room were some softly glowing candles, spaced around the edges of a circular table, etched with occult symbols of darkness and destruction.
All together, it made for quite the dramatic setting for a meeting of secretive people with a dark purpose.
Which was a good thing, since that's what it was all there for.
Five figures obscured by black cloaks walked forward to the table. One of them slammed their fist into the table, and said in a female voice, "We are all here, for one purpose. And one purpose, only!"
She drew out a picture, and slammed it into the middle of the table. A picture of slim, almost boyish girl dressed as a sorceress, with orange hair and red eyes. "To destroy Lina Inverse!!" She cried, lifting a dagger high.
The other four also lifted daggers, and intoned, "Death, to Lina Inverse!" Then they all stabbed their daggers into the picture.
The first figure began speaking again. "The time draws near. Soon, our plans shall be set into motion. Soon, our enemy shall lie broken at our feet! So I say to you, the time for secrecy is past! Let us look upon each other's faces, and know who they are, and how Inverse destroyed each of us."
Putting action to her words, the first figure drew back her hood, revealing an aristocratic face, and curly, light green hair. "I am Martina Zoana Mel Novratilova! Lina Inverse recklessly destroyed my home, the original kingdom of Zoana! It has taken me years and much hard work to recover from that, and I would have my vengeance!"
" Vengeance!" The others cried.
Then, the one to her right lifted his hood, revealing an old man with a long white beard. "I am the chimera-master, Diol. Lina Inverse cruelly destroyed my research, my very life's work! And after promising that she would help in my research! I lost so much, I shall never recover it all. I demand my vengeance!"
Once again, the others cried out "Vengeance!"
Then the figure to Martina's left drew back her own hood, revealing a young woman with dark green hair and red eyes. "I... am Lina Sanverse. Raised to be a true champion of Justice, a become of light to shine down the river of history, as my family has for ages. But, that... that... name stealing monster destroyed all that by existing! While she lives, forever shall my name be linked to hers, my good deeds overshadowed by the rampant destruction and endless terror she causes! And if I must join with villains to see her stopped, I shall! I will have my Vengeance!"
" Vengeance!"
No, things are not shaping up well for Lina Inverse...
