Inuyasha debated what to do about the catatonic girl standing in front of him, something that he found very odd in and of itself. How could she do that? Her legs were locked and supporting her, but her arms were limp as noodles. And not the dry kind. Her head was lolled to one side, her eyes wide and blank.
The dog-boy stared into the marionette's eyes. He tried shaking her awake and yelling her name, but to no avail. Inuyasha lifted one limp arm, then the other. Then he rolled her head from one side to the other experimentally.
"I think I should get someone to look at you," Inuyasha said at last. Inuyasha turned around, then lifted Kagome onto his back. Odd, it seemed that when the weight was taken off her feet, her legs unlocked. Inuyasha quickly supported the robot-girl by her thighs… that took a bit of manual dexterity, he could tell anyone. "Now, where do I take you?" he said contemplatively, "Lady Kaede's out of the question… which reminds me, I have to go find her, but later. That leaves only one person."
He bounded off toward the Bone-Eater's Well.
A nomi-youkai looked on. "At last I have found you, Inuyasha-sama!"
"Hey! Old man!" bellowed Inuyasha as soon as he bounded out of the well. Finding no one there, he rushed out of the well-house and up to the building on the shrine property that people actually lived in, then zeroed in on the scent of all three members of the family, who were still gathered in one spot. He pulled open the door with a foot to reveal the family calmly eating the dish that Kagome had been coveting not long before.
It looked like everyone was going after their second helping of the stuff.
Inuyasha sniffed the air as the prominent aroma of oden. All things considered, it smelled like a wonderful dish. The aroma of oden also drifted past Kagome's nose, still inert on Inuyasha's back.
*Program "Kagome" Reboot*
"ODEN!!!"
"WAGH!" Inuyasha yelped as Kagome came instantly to life on his back (and shouting in his sensitive ear).
"There's still some oden left! Oden! Oden! WAI! ODEN!!!" Kagome cheered on Inuyasha's back, flapping her arms in excitement. She jumped out of Inuyasha's grip and set herself at her place at the table
"Ngh!" the dog-boy groaned, wishing the ringing in his ears away, "I see you're alive again." Inuyasha was quite puzzled. What was this power of oden to within seconds revive the previously catatonic Kagome to full health? What was its power to turn Kagome from the good natured girl into the force of nature that defeated Yura? "I must study this… oden…" he mused.
Inuyasha wasn't the only one with keen hearing. Perceiving a threat to her precious treasure, Kagome snapped forward, wrapping her arms protectively around her serving of oden. "No. Touch. Oden!" she growled protectively.
Inuyasha backed off, remembering the pain that Yura seemed to be going through when Kagome's oden was destroyed the first time. Then anger rose within him. Balling his fist, he declared, "You may have foiled me for now, Kagome, but I will discover the secret of the Happy Fun Oden!"
"Don't be silly… Inuyasha, was it?" Mei, the maternal unit, said soothingly. "There's plenty for everyone!" She served him up a bowl of hot, steaming oden.
"Yes, ma'am!" Inuyasha chirped, sitting himself beside Kagome, who was still watching him carefully. As Inuyasha gratefully accepted some of the sacred oden, when a thought occurred to him that he was forgetting something…
"*HA-CHOO!*" the wounded Lady Kaede. Though not in the best of health, her rest had let the old woman regain some of her strength. "Inuyasha, you'd better come back soon, or I'll give you such an exorcism…"
